It's a drug, Andy. Yesterday I was stalking around my woods with
the Bigma hunting birds and such. A drug, I tell you. A drug.
Florindo,

You are telling that to the man who sits in a dentist's chair with
a camera in his hand?

Look what you've done! Now he's going to have a camera in each hand!

Sounds like you're enjoying your camera, though. Keep enjoying!

That was the first lens I got as well but I find I never use it since I got the 28-135mm with IS. We never take it off the camera, I am contemplating selling the kit lens and the 50mm because as shutter said earlier they just collect dust. We have the 828 AND 300D and probably use them 50/50 but my poor 717 is collecting dust and will probably see Ebay in the next week or so.

Andy
I use the same lens and like it well.
BUT--Spend the extra $70 for the 50 1.8--You will love the dof and
low light capabilities combines the the higher iso's for some of
your street shooting that you do in NY

Also I got the 85 1.8 for indoor sports
I do miss the zoom on the 717 when using the canon!

I still have and luv my 717 and use it as a backup and for other
occassions..My wife has the 707 and uses it.

Hi all,

I went with Andy to B&H where he fell victim to the dark side. Andy said he just wanted to look, I knew better. Andy waited in line to talk to a sales rep. Andy told the rep he was just looking, the sale rep and I had a hard time to keep from laughing. Andy held the toy for a few secs and his eyes got glassy and beads of sweat started running down his face. Suddenly like magic a charge card appeared in Andy's sweaty hand and he started buying stuff. A wino in a bar would had lasted longer then Andy.

At Starbucks Andy played with the toy for a while. He had a real hard time figuring out how the battery went into the camera. When I left him he was complaining about how heavy his backpack was with all this stuff. Welcome to DSLR land Andy.

LOL Good analogy. I just hope the Canon doesn't give him the DT's. Although, the 828 would do a good job of capturing any stray purple elephants.

The boy is going to have to get buff, like you Harry ;-) No more Mr All-in-one lightweight. He's going to be a Dslr crusierweight...lol

Ahhhh weill. It was only a matter of time. With Andy's talent, he will really get superb images from the DR. I just hopes he continues to hang out around here. Remember Andy. We knew ya when ;-)

I am very interested to hear
your thoughts and ideas in comparison.
I went out with a SLR the other day.
A bit startling going from click......click
to ka-tack, ka-tach.
Also now too the lcd down time between shots
makes me want to shake the camera..as if something is wrong.
Shooting at dusk into dark has become my favourite now
particularly in this heat of day.
I rapidly move from 2,4 then iso 800
mostly just because I enjoy..
the quality is so very sad...wasted.
I had a dream of dslr the other night...
and a couple grand put aside with its name all over it.
If there was a camera shop with selection
and no 60% duties..
probably have done the same as you by now.
All the best with it...so much fun.

hey bruce

it was st patty's day parade
cold, wet, snowy, grey, dark-ish in
the concrete canyons of manhattan
not the best element for the 828
i shot in iso 200 and got some good results
but a lot of work in post
and the images are soft - good, but still soft

i'm really happy to have both cameras now.

thanks ;)
