1D MKII - The Inside Info Direct From Canon

Having worked for Canon in Australia for a few years, I managed to be able to extract exactly what's happening with the EOS 1D MK II. A lot of you probably know this already so sorry if it's not news.

They had an International Dealer conference on March 8th where they announced the camera will not have it's international release until April 14th. Hong Kong and US dealers will recieve their's very promptly after that.

So, if your dealer is telling you mid to end of April, that's probably correct as my ex colleagues still at Canon have confirmed that is definitely the deal.

My original info (a long time back now) from Canon UK was a date of April 23rd (St. Georges Day and Shakespears' birthday), and that agrees with what I was told again last week.. However many Pro dealers in the UK are still hoping for earlier.

darrin....couple weeks ago i replied to one of your posts and may have been to harsh. it was about you getting your MkII early etc.....i APOLIGIZE for being such a jerk. i had just had it that day with lots of people posting when & how much etc........so i choose to criticize a guy that use to work for canon & has a great site with great pictures OOPS.......again please accept my apoligies. your pics are very immpressive!

I wasn't in any hurry but now that one of my "friends" tried to kill me by telling my wife I ordered the 1D2, and she didn't hit the roof, I want mine NOW!

My "friend" will pay for this. I know how much he paid for that fancy engraved pistol he bought and he has a wife too!

Canon has said since the introduction that it would ship in April, I'm a little tired of people talking about it being delayed. Sounds to me like its on schedule.

Where are you pics of Indonesia?! Don't tell me you were working in Australia for an extended period of time and never island-hopped your way to Indonesia! :) I'm from there, by the way.

Beautiful images. If I could have my trips paid for I would aspire to take images as wonderful as yours. Too bad I'm broke ;)

when all is said and done, there will be a shootout. you will shoot him with your mark ii and he will shoot you with his pistol? interesting strategy. you may want to cancel your order. ;-)
 
Darrin, it's ashame you didn't leave the EXIF in the photos. Can you tell me what time of year you visited SE Asia? I will be heading out there in a few weeks for several months.

I'd be happy with the shots you throw away I bet.

Your site has one of the finest collections of photos I have come across.

Congratulations.

I would love to see comments for the shots, ie. what your thoughts were, choice of settings, etc.

I'm probably a better critic than a photographer, so take it for what its worth.

Heheh... in the span of one week here, you've managed to post a range of things: From stating that you have a Mark II, to now stating that you worked for Canon Oz and now know the approximate delivery dates for the same camera. It's amazing!! :-)

I want to believe the site and photos are yours, too, but your brief track record here so far makes it difficult to know who the real Darrin is.
