Beautiful lady - love the picture but

I really like your approach on this portrait, Vikki. I particularly like that you didn't obliterate the traces of time... just softened them. The beautiful lady will love the picture, and at the same time, will be able to recognize herself :-).

Thank you. That was my goal.

From my experience, most of the people don't want heavy retouching. They don't want to look different or unnaturaly younger. They just want to look good. I think the goal of the retoucher, in most cases, is to do this without any trace of what was done.

I love this picture that I took of a friend but obviously the harsh
lighting didn't do her any favors. Her eyes are beautiful but I
would like to tone down the lines around her eye's. I am still
trying to figure out this gausian blur but as yet I have not been
successful. What would you do with this picture. By the way, she
has six grown children.

Appreciate your thoughts or help.

Here's my version. I usually have a tendacy to overdo retouch's like this one...I tried to restarin myself and I think it turned out nice. What do you think?

I thought I had better show an example of this technique.

I changed the opacity on the second layer to less the softening effect. The higher you go, the less lines that will show on her face.

This woman is absolutely gorgeous, by the way. Her eyes are just striking!

Thanks for the nice comment about my friend. Also, I appreciate your version and that of your lovely daughter as well.

Vikki's version is great. I really like the work around the eyes. The lines are there ...less visible but not erased. This woman could easily look 25 with enough work on her face but who wants that?

I don't know if this works but I wanted to try a version with even less retouch on the wrinkles but an adjustment on the lighting in the eyes.

Actually, that was Dave Jasek's info (and daughter probably) not mine. hehe

Vikki:

Mine is much less processed ....open another window and look at them side by side....

Yours is very natural BTW ( it's really skilled) ....but I wanted to see if I could get away with more lines and wrinkles. I don't know though...

Also : you did beautiful work on the hair ... it does look smoother and less dry. What did you do?

I also used more saturation and I don't think it's such a good idea with this image. BTW: I didn't want the eyes to look deeper but a bit more shaded. And I wanted to change the catch lights. The eyes in the original photo are what bother me the most. A little too dollish and starey.

I think this face deserves the full glamour treatment - realism be damned!
