I've noticed that when previewing the photos, it takes a LONG time to
bring each picture in to focus. Is there any way of speeding this
process up?

I've been used to seeing the picture immediately, Is there anyway
to view the picture after each shoot?

Bill from the sound of things you have probably set your image quality to either raw or one of the tiff formats. If you use the fine jpeg mode it is much much quicker writing and viewing. There is also a custom capture mode setting (1) that will enable you to view the image before writing it to the card.

Assuming you are in "S" mode as apposed to replay, the time it takes to
display the captured image depends on what quality setting you are using.
If you are in one of the JPEG modes, the image will appear very quickly.
Custom setting 1 gives you the option of using the D1 like a consumer
digicam ie the image will be saved and displayed on the screen at the
same time. There is no way to change the time the camera takes to show
the image.
