Hello you all...

I want to buy a zoom lens with a maximum of around 300 mm and I really can't afford an L series lens. I own a 28-135 IS lens... what lens do you recommend I should get with at least close to the image quality I get from the 28-135 IS lens... but still not an L lens from Canon... The lens does not have to be a canon brand lens... Thanks for the help

Danny

if your'e shooting with a 10d, it's my understanding that a lens with the long end at 200mm actually gives you about 300mm because of the undersized sensor chip.

I'd try the Canon 75-300 IS. It's a very respectable lens for $500.

IS is nice... if you're handholding outside in lower light. It takes away camera shake.

IS will not stop action in action shots. You need a fast shutter for action shots.

It does not give you the magnification of 300mm lens.

It does not give you the magnification of 300mm lens.
It does if you print the final image at the same size as you would have from a 300mm lens on a 35mm camera. (Although its actually a 320mm lens on the 10D.)

Yes, I know that the 1.6x is really a crop factor, not a magnification factor, but unless you keep the image the same size as it is on the CMOS and compare it with a contact print from a 35 mm negative, it has the same result as a magnification factor.
