Probably the best photos I have are of taking my children to Mickey's dressing room for his autograph. There are typically long lines but well worth the wait.

Had my wedding/honeymoon at disney world back in november. There are plenty of photo ops day and night. With a 5 year old i would think it would be difficult NOT to find any good photo ops.

I Agree,

It's hard NOT to find a good place to snap shots down their.

I have'nt been there in a few years, but the tour guide on the tram from the parking lot gave us a map of the park. It had little stars where they recomended taking photos, but they're all obvious spots.

My three recomendations:

Don't stop shooting, take a big memory card or two. (I like to take the same photo two or three times at the minimum)

Try and shoot with your back to the sun as much as possible.

Don't stop shooting.

Have a safe trip too. It's so much fun, and going with a young child is like going for your first time all over again.

What are you shooting with, so I can give better advice?

When my daughter was that age, she liked playing in the spouting fountains at Epcot. If memory serves, it is on the left hand side as you go from Future World to the World showcase, and it has a sidewalk with holes that spouts water randomly (don't worry, there is plenty of space to walk dry). Come prepared with a change of clothes so your child can play in it. On the other hand, my wife still rails at me trying to get her to smile for the video camera (it was 11 years ago).

For night shots, there is always Cinderella's castle illuminated by fireworks, but you have to figure out how to brace your camera amongst the throngs of people.....

Oh yeah, if you have a long zoom camera (particularly a stabalized one), the Animal Kingdom safari ride gives you lots of great shots. Also the Animal Kingdom Lodge has 3 different animal areas, particularly if you can be there at feeding time (we stayed there in 2001, and it was great).

THanks Michael..she loves the water spouts at Dollywood so those will definitely be hit down in Disney world.

UGh, I know those crowds will be large..hopefully can find a spot to shoot from that will be ok without a lot of shoving...t

Unfortunately I didn't have my Olympus C-2100UZ when we went in 2001 :-( We were feeling flush at the time, and went conceirge level in order to do the Sunrise Safari which is only available to to concierge guests, but it was very neat.

Be sure to ask when feeding time is (it was 7:00am -ish when we went).

You will love Animal Kingdom Lodge! This photo shows the view from my room during my last stay there:

(It's not a great photo, but you can see how many different animals are there.) I believe this was the Arusha Savannah. (And be sure to dine in Boma or Jiko ... both fabulous restaurants!)

I don't have kids of my own, but I usually look around at the kids' faces during the parades and the shows, and they are always filled with awe and delight. If I had kids, I might take fewer photos of the shows, and more of my kids' faces while they were watching the shows.

The best place to watch Illuminations (the night-time fireworks/laser show in Epcot) is in a little area behind the UK. There's a path on the right side of the Rose & Crown restaurant that leads down toward the lagoon. Sometimes it's blocked off and used for private parties, but if it's open it definitely provides the best view.

I hope you will have the time to visit Animal Kingdom. Some people think it's a half-day park, but I think you can spend the entire day wandering through the trails and watching the animals. Be sure to see the Flights of Wonder show ... and when they ask for volunteers with a camera, hold your camera high! The volunteer sits up on stage right in front of a "tree stump" and an owl flies directly toward the person, landing on the stump. I feel bad for the people whose flash goes off long after the owl has already landed on its target. Oh, and one more thing ... when you go on the Safari, if it's not crowded ask to be seated on the left side. You'll have a better chance of seeing the lions and the cheetahs and the elephants on the left side.

Enjoy your trip, and be sure to post photos when you return!

Actually not sure what the street is, but when we were there a few years ago they had a street in MGM with a lot of the characters greeting the kids. I hope they still do this, I have not been for almost 3 years. We have switched and started going to Disneyland since it is closer, has better hours and is way cheaper.

But I have to agree with everyone else, there are tons of good photo spots for taking pictures of your kids in the parks. I would recommend a fast lens. Also, just shoot away. I have captured some of the best candid shots by just shooting tons of shots. Its digital so it free and just throw away the bad shots.

Not sure what camera you plan to take around the park. You mentioned a 100-400 so I assume its a Canon DSLR. I have successfully carried my 10D on 3 different trips to Disneyland. One item I have found very helpful is a shoulder holster type bag. This allows me to easily get at my camera, but also easily put it aside and not have to worry about it when on rides and stuff.

Good Luck, have fun. You will have a blast watching your 5yr olds reactions.

That reminds me, remember that there are rides that shake you (Star Wars, Body Wars, Space Mountain) and rides that drench you (Splash Mountain, Kali River Rapids), so if you are going to be going to the parks with an expensive camera you might want to be prepared. It might make sense to get a disposable film P&S camera for the parks with those type of rides and then have the film processing make you a CD. There are lockers at the parks, but only at the entrance, which is a long long way from some of the rides.

Since you have a 5 year old and are staying on property, the usual suggestion is to go back to the hotel for an hour or two of down time so the kids don't get cranky. It is fairly sad to see parents and kids in a meltdown situation caused by people trying to do it all commando style.

What we did at Christmas this year was make reservations at the Rose and Crown for dinner so that we would be there during the Illuminations show. We asked for a table outside, on the deck and had a great place to watch, and take photos. I had a small "tabletop" tripod and set it up to take several, long exposure shots of the fireworks and light show. Plus we had a nice, reasonably priced meal.

thanks Michael..good advice..I will be the photographer/videographer..no desire to ride..haha...will let the wife do those honors, but your advice on downtime is wise..t
