Hi all,

I just came back from a 10-day tour with my orchestra (Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, where I play Double Bass). We went to Vienna, Metz, Amsterdam and Paris among other cities, and althought the schedule was quite busy I managed to take a few pictures here and there (ca. 700 shots in all). I haven't got those 200 Vienna pictures here yet (I transferred them to a friends laptop and he's not here for a while), so some pictures from Vienna Konzerthaus and the city will come later.

I got no pictures from the actual concert situations, as at that time I was always on stage with a bow on my hand :-)

Some selected shots (what I consider to have some artistic values) from the tour are now on my gallery

Hi Pekka,

I was wondering why we hadn't heard from you in a while! But I figured wherever you were, you'd be snapping some pics! Thanks for sharing some of them with us...

Some astounding photos, as always, Pekka. Were the night time shots taken with a tripod (Tv mode?) or hand held? Also, I know you've mentioned in the past that you use KPT Equalizer instead of Unsharp Mask. Can you share with us what settings you typically set the Equalizer sliders for sharpening?? Do you also convert the RAW images using LOW contrast and sharpness? I've not been able to get my G1 photos to anywhere near the sharpness of your photos!

Thanks,

LW

Pekka,

If photography is a hobby then you must be one splendid musician. Like most (maybe all) Canon forum posters, I look forward to seeing your new photos as they are strikingly beautiful. Like LW, I would very much like to learn a little about your KPT Equalizer technique. You have a marvelous way with composition and are obviously a skilled photographer, but I am continually amazed at the clarity imparted by the unique sharpness in your photos. While I have a very long way to go in the skills department, if a measure of this sharpness can be obtained via use of this plug-in, then I want to learn a little about it from someone who has mastered its use.
Regards,
Dave

After all the grousing on this board about Canon quality (dead pixels, fuzzy focus, errant exposure, etc.), it's a revelation to see what a G1 can do in skilled and sympathetic hands. You set a standard that we all should try to attain.

Thanks.

I had to call my wife in to share viewing your exquisite photographs.

They are an inspiration. The subject matter, quality and composition are outstanding!

Thank you so much for sharing and inspiring.

Pekka,

Thank you for sharing your photographic works of art with us. They are a great inspiration, and in fact, it was your photos and the promise of what the G1 is capable of in the right hands that convinced me to purchase one in the first place.

I have a long way to go to develop the skill to achieve what you have accomplished, but hope to grow by visiting this forum and learning from yourself and the many other talented participants here and then put those learning’s to practice with my own camera.

That said, how DO you get your photo's to appear so luxuriously smooth and at the same time razor sharp? No noise, no grain, no pixelization, just rich, creamy, smooth colors, with stunning composition as well.

I can't believe it is strictly a matter of simple camera settings (contrast, sharpness, saturation, etc.) although I am sure perfect exposure is greatly responsible and assume you work entirely in RAW mode at ISO 50, but it seems like there must be some other factors I am completely missing that contribute to the "Pekka look".

If you are willing to share your technique it would be greatly appreciated, if it is a Pekka "trade secret" you are unwilling to reveal, I'd understand, but I would love to learn what else it is you put into these photo's that allow you and your G1 to do what I can only currently hope for.

Thanks for any lessons you are willing to share,

Rodney

Pekka,

Well, this will obviously be redundant, but what magnificent pictures. How someone could take something as overphotographed as the Eiffel Tower and make it seem fresh and ravishing...truly the mark of a skilled photographer. I can't even name a favorite...every picture is a delight.

Thank you for sharing these with us...if you have a moment to share the settings on some of the pictures, it would be greatly appreciated. Otherwise, keep them coming!

I've been looking around for good G1 pictures, and I found a few jewels, but your website is like an African diamond mine. I don't think that I've ever seen so many amazing pictures in one place, and seeing that they were taken with a G1 is making me crazy because I can't buy one right now.

Anyone ever do freelance work for a company and not get paid for it? I'm in that situation right now. It's been 7 weeks and who knows how many phone calls. I'm not the only one in that situation, either. Class action suit anyone?

Sorry, I'm going off-topic. Anyway, I'm particularly impressed with your "Rush! (Paris, France)" picture. Truly amazing. Brings back memories as well (my mother is from Paris).

Pekka:

On the panarama shots from the Eiffel Tower and the inside of the concert hall, how many exposures (pics) did you use for each?

What a outstanding pictures. Could you give us some technical information behind the scenes. I think you should work for National Geographic Magazine.

Very very nice.
