Hello again, well I am still trying NOT to take my Sony T1 back and throw it at the shop manager I like is so much If only it was a Camera in the sense that it took photographs!

I read all these forums and chaps say they get brill photo's well perhaps they are on drugs or have very bad eye sight . Or perhaps that's me! Joking apart I have had the worse photo's ever from this smart looking and surperb made portable camera.

If I compare it to my last camera Minolta F300 the shot sthat I got from the Minolta were clear crisp and very nice in color, th eshots I have had in the 3 weeks of owing the T1 are terrible lot of RED in them and when I come to print A4 photos MAX res on Epson Photo Gloss or HP they come out as if it is on a effect setting , then some come out just bad not sharp and NEVER GOOD.

Why ? I have tried all the stuff off this site re settings made NO difference just as bad if not worse, so I ask who is kidding who? and why ? is it not Sony who is getting the best laugh at £460 or $695 equivelent they must be.

Anyone who can help me all I need is simple nice sharp and color right prints.......... I would like them with this camera.

I fret that I will not get them though!

The red eye and the poor quality dark room photo's dont worry me but the terrible ill focused and RED all over photos from a clear English garden daytime shots do!!!!!
thank you kindly

Didn't it occur to you your T1 may defective? Outdoor it should
give satisfactory results and not very far from 717. Or maybe there
are many objects with reds such as roses and you can't see the
reds? Try to share some photos as they are worth a thousand words.

Outstanding daytime shots and acceptable low light.
Gotta post some pics, then we can be of some help.

I'm sure it's a defect in the camera if it's producing horrible
prints in daylight. I have one and it works wonders for me.
Perhaps some examples would help.

Go to pbase.com, upload your photos there, share the link here.
I heard some complains about reddish hues at all settings. May
be hardware problem like missing lenses. Pls. upload some pics
before you send it for repair. Someone is selling me a T1 real
cheap ($300) without warrantee and box, and I may get it for
evaluation to compare to the 717 side by side at all shooting
condition. I'm concerned it may have factory defect that the
seller wants to withhold from me. Hope to see your pics soon.
(Btw.. if anyone reading this from Hong Kong, pls share what
is the street price of the T1 there now, thanks)

I don't know about missing lenses, but may be a bad or scratched optical coating (more likely).

Agreed, would really help forum members point you in the right direction.

I think you'll find the 717 will win hands-down. The T1 can produce very good pictures, and I'm quite pleased with it, but my 707 blows it away. For the size though, I've found it gives it gives very good image quality (on par with my p10).

Quite a turnaround from your previous posts. I get the feeling that you really like the T1, and regret returning it before giving it a fair shake :)

More likely its either hot or gray market (I think the former is more likely). If in doubt, get the SN and check with Sony to verify warrentee and ownership (if it was registered). That way, if it is broke, then it should be repairable by Sony under warrentte.
(Btw.. if anyone reading this from Hong Kong, pls share what
is the street price of the T1 there now, thanks)
Can't help you there.

Good luck on your purchase. Hope you have better luck with the camera this time around.

I want to compare it by fixing the aperture of the 717 at F3.5,
I'd like to know how big is the effect on sensor size on noise,
colors and other parameters between the 717 0.75" sensor vs the
T1 0.4" sensor. Also how the difference mean in real life and
whether they are significant enough and what is really useful
image quality in actual and theoretical scenerios.

Not exactly. It's just that when I tried the 717. I found all the
things I wanted in a digicam... except the size. With the 717
you can get 5X at aperture F2.4 compare to the V1 3X at
F4.0 and the W1 3X at F5.2. Imagine how big the aperture
is the F2.4 and at 5X optical zoom! It's unprecented in human
history. Now we can treat the T1 as extension of the 717.
The 717 is like a mothership and the T1 its scout ship. Without
both, exploring planetary (or landscape) territory (or photography)
is not optimal. This is esp. for beginners in photography, a V1
or W1 with bigger flash, tripod thread, manual control, filters,
optional lenses would make photography more fun than just
simply owning a T1. And many of you who own bigger camera
like 707, 717, 300D finds the T1 a great complement or companion.
That is all there is to it.

...but I agree with you...resistance is futile...!

You don't have to shout!

I'll look into the pics. They seem a bit overexposed. I notieced the first one (the bike) that you used spot metering. The center of the frame is a black jacket. This will throw off the spot meter, as it tries to expose the black as grey (that's the purpose of the spot meter). I would first sugguest that you try and get a good exposure. You can try the same -0.7 exposure using multi-metering and see if your exposure looks better. Also I noticed that your saturation was set to low as sugguested on this forum. I sugguest you set saturation to normal and contrast to normal and take some pics and see if you like the color better. The desaturation could lead to off colors. Also, make sure you are not using autolevels on your imaging software before printing.

Let me know what happens and I will try to help you out.

From my observations there is nothing wrong with it. I don't own one but have seen plenty of test shots and your is normal. The T1 has terrible optics caused by its puny lens setup. I see the redness which appears only outside and must be the auto white balance so thats off as well.

Currently, all small cameras are a little funky. I am hoping they get it right with the W1. If the W1's images are as good as the P10 and not have that flash shadow I will gladly buy it!

Well wait no longer and buy the T1! The T1 images are "as good as the P10" (I had both) and in some respects it is better, but ever so slightly more noisy. The T1's flash shadows are minimized by the proximity of the flash to the lense, but the tradeoff is that you increase the likelyhood of red-eye (true with all cameras). To eliminate red eye and minimize shadow cast, you will need an off-camera flash.

I could not help but laugh deviously when reading your email.

I have been reading and exchanging messages in these forums for some six months and the message I got so far is that there are ppl that really "want to believe".

They are served a spectacular product sheet and they rush out their credit card to preorder the junk (look what happend with the 828, the purple lady as it most commonly known). After they receive it and after this site has very righly put facts right they fall over backwards to defent their mistake of bying the lemon with arguments such as:

......"ahhh in real life you don't get the conditions in lab tests"
......" the reviewer is splitting hairs"

and the like. Don't fall for that. Believe your eyes and the comprehensive reviews. Don't buy before reading the review.

BTW, I have a Minolta XT which is also bad in low light (lot's of noise and the like). I've lived in the UK for some years and I know how sunny (or not) your average days are (now in Greece so no probs). It really made me wonder how ppl even consider small digicams like the XT or the T1 when they live in places like England where even my EOS5 had to pop up its flash in every other shot at F2.2.

Sorry about your loss of your hard earned (I believe) cash.

I'm very excited about the T1 but Belgium's not much better than UK. I can afford to wait a little bit.
