Gawaine, here's my 2 cents worth, I could be wrong, or going about it the round-a-bout way, as I have yet to do what you want myself. However, knowing about computer storage, here goes:
First a question for you...do you have a cd writer? you'll need that. lets assume you do.
Treat your picture files as any old data, thats all it is anyway. Using the software that came with your writer, such as Adaptec, transfer your picture files to a cd-r as you would say a written document. Difference being it will be a data file rather than an audio file (for music).
Now your pictures will be stored in 2 places, your hard drive and your new CD you just made.
Use any software program that will "read" Jpeg, files, assuming you saved them as such, and open the pictures by putting the cd in the player, cd or dvd, doesnt matter....go to your D, E, or whatever drive is the CD player, and import the files to the software program for viewing. Just as you would if it were a document.
All you need to do is be carefull how you organize your files for easy referal.
Once you are satisfied your pictures are safely stored AND you can view them, it is safe to delete them from your hard drive and free up space.
I think this will work, but if anyone has or does it a better way I'm all ears.
post back with any questions. Bob
i've been looking for awhile for a good solution, i've yet to find
it...making html thumbnail pages is the best i've found so far, and
that's not really optimal but at least it's cross-platform...
PicturesToExe can produce and run slideshows from cd

I wonder if anyone could advise as to the best software to use for
storing photos on a CD. I am thinking of something that would allow
you to create something similar to a Picture CD. Thanks
