Nice photos. What lens were you using? It looks like you were close to the floor. Where were you sitting?

I took my Rebel with my 30-200 L IS to a Celtics game last night. You inspired me to post them. I will try that a bil later.
wow great pics.

unfortunately, i haven't had much opportunity to shoot sports but
was lucky recently to get some great seats at a detroit pistons
game. here are a few pics with the rebel from that game:

Those are really solid considering you can't get the lighting in those NBA gyms.

Speaking of that game, #24 Desmond Mason of the Bucks, is someone I went to college with at Oklahoma State. My wife and I went to Seattle when he was playing for the Sonics to see him. We got to go down into the locker room after the game and he walked us out of Key Arena.

He's a great guy and a great player.

Here are some VERY EARLY photo of Mason from back in 1999 dunking it on Texas, when I had a 1 megapixel Sony FD-90. At the time, it was a good camera :) Of course, I've got better as has my camera.

The Celtics at the Fleet Center will allow still photography, not video. They have posted "no bags", so don't bring a camera bag.

Before I got the 70-200mm lens, I used the 50mm 1.8 and 100mm 2.0 (?). Kept them in foam bags in my coat pocket. Results with the zoom were sharper and better. Go figure. I was concerned about banging the lens so I hung the camera and lens around my neck and put them inside my coat. No problem.

Used manual exposure by using the basketball floor as my "grey card". Works very well. No color corrections required. Prefocussed by using manual focus because, in the past, I found that the camera would focus on the crowd behind the action.

You can also bring a camera to the Red Sox games.

Cameras at concerts in the Fleet are illegal. I brought the Rebel and the 50mm to the Simon & Garfunkel concert. I kept the lens and body in separate pockets. Once I got inside, no one bothered me. At the end of the concert, I moved up close to the stage and got a terrific shot.

Is this more than you wanted to know?

You are lucky to have season tickets. I have to rely on the kindness of friends. Good grief. Cheap seats are $125 ea.

if you plan on specialising on shooting sports then the 10D may be the way to go

10D has selectable AI servo, 300D has AI focus which automatically engages AI servo. However, there are way to 'trick' it into using AI servo whenever you want

10D has 4 fps with a 9 shot buffer, 300D has 2.5 fps with a 4 shot buffer

I think they're the only relevant differences

lol thanks for the info, unfortunately my seats arent really close to the floor so minimum I would 200mm to get decent shots. I am not feeling so lucky now considering how the celtics are playing :(

I took my DRebel with my 70-200 2.8L IS to the Celtics game tonight as I did last week. Guess what. They would not let me use it. Said it was a professional lens and the NBA prohibited it unless I had a pro pass. Had to leave it in customer service. Luckily, I had my 50mm 1.8 in my pocket and was able to shoot with it.

Neat thing is that the reason I bought the 70-200 was to take it to pro sporting events. Life is not fair, as Jack Kennedy said some time ago.

Caveat emptor.

that makes no sense to me.! why do they do that?!?
