The hoya r72 works very nicely with the fz1. Very bright sunlight is essential but that is the case for most ir photography. A tripod comes in handy but I'm lazy and travel light. Detail is not so important with ir shots (it seems), so a little softness doesnt hurt. That's fortunate because most shots are in the 1/10 sec range. So you take a few shots and see which one the wonderful fz1 OIS gets best. Set the wb to manual with the filter attached and ordinary shots take on a new hue.... and so do you.

FZ1 w/ Hoya R72; iso 100; f/2.8; 1/8 sec; handheld

Cool! You know I really enjoy taking IR images and was glad my Oly C2100 can do that. Now I have upgraded to a FZ10 and found out that I cannot do IR with it. Kindda sucks. I should have taken the FZ1 instead if I only knew ;(

Enough about me. Yes, IR is definitely fun.. I must say, I enjoy your images. It seems that with IR, all images no matter how common would always come out exciting.

Those are great. I like the eerie feeling you get looking at them. Do you have any pictures of people taken with the r72ir as have never seen anyone post any. By the way did you get your Yoshida adapter yet? I saw your mention you were tired of worrying about the plastic. Mine came yesterday. Feels a lot better on FZ1.

George - The eyes and the skin tone are neat in the close-ups at Edwins link. It looks like the fz1 might give a little different feel. I'll check it out tomorrow. As for the yoshida adapter, I'm still trying to save up the fifty bucks and I keep spending it on something else - two or three times over. Eventually. Thanks for the push. Maybe I'll just make it four times over.

Fred, My turn to push as thanks to your posts I have a Tcon17 , B Macro and am now looking for a lens called w/hoya r72 ir (not yet). A little sidenote about the Yoshida adapter as I didn't realize the FZ10 didn't come with the plastic adapter tube that we have. When using my sanded down FZ1 adapter I can turn the Tcon17 well into it but with the Yoshida adapter the Tcon does not turn in very far. But, using my UV filter Which turns well into the Yoshida the Tcon feels very secure turned into it. It was the swivel in the plastic that made me nervous.

George - The Hoya r72 is not that expensive particularly for the amount of fun it offers. The best price I found is $28 (+ $5 s/h) at http://www.freestylephoto.biz/sc_prod.php?cat_id=&pid=4320

I take it you have both the fz1 and fz10. Understand that the fz10 internal ir blocker makes it useless for ir shots.

Concerning the yoshida adapter for the fz1, my primary reason for getting it is NOT having to use a uv filter which I find neccessary with the plastic adapter threads. From what you say, the threads on the yoshida are such that a uv filter (or at least some kind of additional threaded device) is needed for the tcon17.

Fred No , I have only the FZ1 and luv it. I just tried the B-Macro on the Yoshida and it screws in all the way. I find the Tcon also feels secure but because of the lip on the thread of the Tcon it goes into my sanded plastic a turn farther.
