I find myself hitting "cancel" a lot these days...

... and regarding your issue, I feel that we all have gone through this haven't we? For example, this is my first completed post in a very long time, I've been around, but kind of lurking and seeing what's new.

I feel that the point is that at sometimes you just get your hands full of stuff and other things need to wait, or your 'hands-full' situation zaps your energy faster than the usual rate you spend it, thus leaving you 'disabled' for other tasks.

Since you have been a great source of advice and inspiration to many here and have shown lots of energy and dedication, I know that you will overcome this and get back before you know it.

Have a great 2004, filled with success!!!

i have hit cancel today 5x more than i've posted.

sigh....

I think I intentionally don't post more than I post lately! lol
I don't know how many times I've canceled long replies/comments on
CSLR and STF in the past couple of weeks, but it's a couple dozen
I'm sure.

I start to reply to someone calling Best Buy a "scam" company, or
to someone about a 300D/828 comparison, and unfortunately, even to
requested critiques. Everyone is so thin-skinned I don't want to
deal with the fallout of making a reply that might irk someone off.
I'm worried that I can't even give any constructive comments to a
photos for fear that someone would jump all over me.

Every once in a while I can't help it, but sigh , then I don't
have the energy to defend a point.

I sit and try to find a thread that I can grab onto, but I just
don't have the energy anymore.... which I guess is just as well, as
I've got enough on my plate (as I stare at my website in
development and the extremely messy office).

Oh well, How're you all doin'? :-)

When I first came across stf it was full of info & critiques. That appears to have vanished when the 828 pf bashing began.

I post pics that are generally ignored, (that’s probably a critique). I’ll take criticism good or bad as long as it’s an honest critique, I’m trying to get better but I need feedback & guidance. At the present time it doesn’t look like it’s going to happen here. At the moment I’m considering moving along in search of somewhere else to get feedback.

Thanks for listening.

Hi,

I wouldn't let it bug you. You might try posting these in the Pictures/Galleries forum. You would probably get more critiques there.

Jim, just noticed this thread again (and sorta' remember it from awhile back...)

anyway - is there any hope that folks will get tired of trolls and normally-normal folks trolling for trolls? (did that make any sense?)

In other words - what can we do to get back into the business of sharing techniques, ideas, great (or not-so-great) shots and looking for CONSTRUCTIVE critique?

There MUST be a way!!!

so now...In the voice of John Belushi..

"Did America give up when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?"

"NO!!!"

"And we're not gonna' give up now!!! Who's with me?!??!!!

C'MON!!!!!!" Here's where I run screaming from the room, with no one following...

...sorry.. got carried away.

Best regards - Keith

hi max

the forum moves at a rocket-pace! don't be discouraged.

btw - two great places for critique are

samples and galleries here on dpreview and you could also try the critique forum at fredmiranda.com - that's a great place for critique!

Hi Harry - I had a hernia operation about 25 years ago and it wasn't too bad. The worst thing was sneezing. DON'T sneeze. It contracts all the muscles in the middle and those were the ones that were cut. I learned you can supress a sneeze if the motivation is high enough. LOL

I also found a warm hot pad (ask your surgeon) was good to relieve cramping. Cramping is almost as bad as a sneeze.
I think hernia's are heriditary. My dad had on at the same age on the same side.

With hindsight: Make sure your wife has a durable medical power of attorney so she can make any decisions if required. Don't trust the doctors very far. Have her double check the medication dosage if possible. Not a doom and gloom person but I like to plan ahead. Saves problems.
I don't know what would happen if you tried to take hospital pictures.

Mel
Hey Jim,

I've noticed your posting "shortage" and I've missed you. I can
understand your hesitancy to post in these fevered times. I've been
avoiding a lot of threads myself lately. Folks seem to be suffering
from a lack of perspective and civility lately.

I've tried to get away from by the craziness here by just viewing
some of the pbase galleries. Then I checked my pbase page and I
find some bozo assailing me for having a picture of the American
Flag in a gallery.

Otherwise I'm doing great. My wife's last day of work is tomorrow
and I only have one more month myself. I can't wait. I'm hoping to
set one day a week aside just to get out and shoot different parts
of the city. I find shooting to be the best therapy for post
internet stress syndrome.

Oh, you should enjoy this. I just had a great phone call from my
eldest granddaughter, Jennifer. She had minor hernia surgery today
and I had asked her to "take notes" and to fill me in because I
have to go in for hernia surgery myself soon. She took it very
seriously and gave me a complete report and she tried very hard to
assure me that it wasn't too bad. She was very impressed with the
"happy juice" (anesthesia).

Jim - I am trying to speak softly in my posts for the same reason you mention. Hard learning curve though. Hang in there, you are one of the persons I am going to school on.
Mel
I try to re-read every post, and sometimes it's just a better idea
to bite my tongue and hit cancel than add to the strife. I'd like
to think it's the mature and responsible thing to do ;)
I think re-reading posts is one of the reasons for me, too. I used
to just let it fly, but now I question if it's worth it. I must be
learning something. I'm like Pavlov's dog. ;-)
This will all go away in another month or so, I'm sure, and then we
can go back to great fun and great ideas and great pictures. Just
hang in there!
Thanks Cherilyn... but it's not just recently since the 828... it
goes back to me talking about my 10D focus problems on CSLR.
That's long over, but that's when I really learned to watch and
consider what I say.

Shutter,

In this forum we speak not what we think. A posted image of a squashed dog in the middle of the road is "Beautiful!" A posters first pic with his new 828 of his garbage disposal is "Inspirational." Anyone who discloses or mentions a difficiency with the 828 is labeled a traitor. Yeah, this place is great! So Shutter, don't hit the cancel button, post those crummy pictures of you dead pets if ya got'm, we'll tell ya we love'm!
