The 300D/DR is alot different then a Point & Shoot camera.
You cannot use the LCD for previewing shots, as the 300D is a SLR camera, and has a mirror that blocks the sensor until the shutter is pressed.
For image quality, check out many of the posts in this forum, or look at the sample pics in the review here. You will NOT be dissapointed with the shots the DR takes. They are so good, that while many people talk of getting another camera soon (when a possible replacement is announced), I will be using this camera for many years to come. 8x10 print outs are outstanding. You cant tell the difference between this pics and a film photo.
SLRs are harder to use. There is the good "fully automatic" mode that most cameras have, but to take better/artistic photos, you need to use and understand things like fstops, depth of field, shutter speed, iso and other settings.
While it is harder...it also produces amazing photos. It's like anything really. Stick it in auto, and it will take good photos. Take control over the photo, and it will take amazing photos.
Things like changing lenses, adding filters and the such make a SLR so much more flexable then a P&S with a fixed lens. However, P&S lenses these days have large zooms, and good quality.
The sensor chip in the DR is alot bigger than P&S cameras, and this produces images that are cleaner (less noise).
P&S cameras do internal post-processing. Things like color balance, sharpening etc. SLRs need YOU to do the work in a program, like photoshop (photoshop elements comes with the DR), or paint shop pro. It's more work, but again you get better results.
So, if you are willing to spend the time and energy to learn how to use the camera, and how to post-proccess your images, then the DR is the way to go. If you feel you wont like that, stay with one of the many P&S cameras that exist today. 5-8MP P&S cameras range in the $500-$1200 price range, the DR is $1000. However, I've just added a couple of extra lenses, a couple filters, a battery grip....so my DR cost is around $1600 at the moment.
Hope that helps a little.
Hi all
I want to know if I can use the LCD for taking pics, like what we
can do in other digital camera. I now have a Sony P9 camera and the
image quality is really bad. Are the image quality better than Sony
P9?
Lastly, I am not a professional, can I use this camera efectively
or you need professional know how to get the results.
Please reply asap, as I will decide with in a few days to buy or not.
Cheers
