Cleaning the LCD

Does anyone know how to remove fingerprints from the F505 LCD, a moist cloth does not work but rather just smears. I'm afraid to use any solvent or soap for fear of damaging the outer LCD coating.

There are LCD cleaning kits available at most computer and photo stores. I used to clean the LCD on my Kodak by using a piece of Scotch Invisible tape (not the shiny stuff, but the frosty-looking stuff). It worked great. Laid a piece on the LCD and it lifted the fingerprints right off.

Camera stores carry them and it actually "lifts" the fingerprints off the LCD and lens. Well worth the $6.00 These are not the same as the eyeglass cloths. Always good to blow the dust or grime off before cleaning. For complete camera care and more than you might want to know:

I use a Calotherm Hi-Tech lens cloth - no doubt the similar to the Luminex cloth mentioned by trkk. It works 100%. I have the Sony case and fold it into the top under the memory sticks holder. It falls naturally to cover the LCD when I close the top.

I find that a "lenspen" works really well. One end is a soft brush and the other end is a smear remover. The smaller lenspen gets into the corners of the LCD much better than the bigger one.

Thanks all the same, I'll use the scothch tape, no wiping no scratch potential if you happen to get that single piece of sand on the wipe. The tape leaves not thace of oil from the skin.

I used a regular lens cleaning cloth (no scratch etc.) and that seems to be fine. Don't know if any surface on the LCD will "rub off" though.

When my display was full of fingerprints i went to a local camera store which also sells digital cams. They told me they always used lens pens and that the results are excellent. (One side of the pen is a special prepared fine textile, the other side is a brush). I used it a lot and the display looks like new after every cleaning. But i share your fear that we rub off a layer of the LC display...
Any more comments on this?

what about leaving traces of glue? Eventually?

Has anyone tried to get Sony to respond to this issue? I just got my F505 and have gotten through about half of the manual and haven't seen anything on LCD cleaning recommendations.

Good luck getting Sony to respond to anything; their support is non-existant. As I've said before; their camera is great; but their support SUCKS.

The manual says:

"Cleaning the LCD screen

Wipe the screen surface with the cleaning cloth (not supplied) or a LCD cleaning kit (not supplied) to remove fingerprints, dust, etc."

I wouldn't buy a cleaning kit from Sony though, I bought myself a microfiber cloth and it works great. Sony isn't cheap.
