Here's My Flag Picture - Do you have one?

Great photo!
Thanks. I took that at the Fort Custer National Cemetery here in
Battle Creek Mi. It's unbelievable how many flags they have flying
there. The picture only shows about half of them.
It's a very sacred and beautiful place. There is even an area
honoring German soldiers.
The road winds through the woods for miles, with plots along the way.

this images really make me appreciate the DRebel image qual.

nonetheless, you made great pics with what you had!!!

JB
Thanks JB... The Nikon was a real challenge since it got very noisy very quickly. I rarely took shots over 1 second, making lightning purely pot luck. On the site above most of the lightning pix were only one second exposures. That combined with the shutter lag of the Nikon made the shots a real challenge and truely LUCKY. I am looking forward to the start of lighting season here in the "lighting capitol of the world" this Spring and Summer now that I have a camera that has the capabilities of the DR.

Taken with a Nikon 990, pre DR days.

Memorial Island, Vero Beach, Florida.

More lightning pix here:

I had also thought of cropping out the boat, but decided against it since it would have possibly eliminated some of the lightning above the boat. I also thought of cloning the boat out, but realized that doing so would have made the reflections in the water very unnatural. I decided it was probably best to leave the boat in there. Feel free to play with the picture if you like and post any improvements that you can achieve. :-)

Shot on Portra 160 VC with a F100 / 50mm 1.4.

Don't lose your time on him, Jase.

FPSurgeo shows the sort of fundamentalism that made the Taliban what they were. He just has a different cause to fight for.
My definition of Democracy is One Man One Vote. The present
situation in Iraq is that the shiite majority wants to hold direct
elections, and the US forces are dragging their feet, cause they
know that under democratic elections a pro-iranian fundamentalist
regime would easily be elected. Instead it is trying to set up a
confusing system of council appointments so that the US can have
some more docile government to deal with. So, where's the
democracy? Does democracy work only when it suits your particular
taste? BTW, did you know that until 1990 the US was Saddam's most
ardent supporter while Saddam waged war on Iran?
1) Why would the world (let alone the US) want a pro-Iranian
fundamentalist regime? Has your liberalism so robbed you of common
sense that you would sit idly by while a country organized itself
into such a system? A system that would neatly quash any of your
grand ideas on free expression and would be simulateously the first
time and the last time that One Man One Vote ever occurred there?
Wait! What am I thinking, european countries did sit idly by
while their neighbors assembled into fundamentalist systems (former
USSR, **** Germany,...)

2) Let me get this straight: you would rather not have a "docile"
goverment in the mid-east?

3) Did you forget that while the US openly supported Saddam during
the Iran-Iraq war, the US had an arms deal with Iran? The US was
never really buddies with Iraq. The US was playing Saddam while
arming his enemies. Oh, yeah, and France and Britain sold arms to
Iraq during that time, too.
No, we are not upset. Europe started fighting the Talibans long
before the US,
Uh, yeah, and really effectively, too ( cough )...you guys really
had ol' bin Laden and Mullah Omar on the run there....hyeah. Saw
lots of girls going to school before the US came in, too (NOT). Of
course, we know how you europeans love soccer, too...so did the
taliban...nice shiny stadium for executions, throat slittings,
amputations....yep, don't know how we coulda done it withoutcha.
and presently Europe has more forces in Afghanistan
than the US. The US, on the other hand, provided much of the
original funding for the Taliban, when the Mujahedin were fighting
the soviet presence in the region. Most of what came to be the
Taliban got their first military training from american military
advisers in Pakistan in the late 80's early 90's. Memory is a
curious thing, isn't it? I guess you have a talent for picking up
strange bed partners that you don't like when you wake up the next
day.
Yes, you're right, the Soviet Union would have been MUCH better
dominating the middle east. Then freedom would truly have
flourished, prosperity would have reigned much as it did throughout
the soviet empire. Oh wait, that's the soviet union in bizarro
world! In the real world, its usually best to side with the
weaker of two evils, together finish off the bigger evil, and then
wipe out the lesser evil you had partnered with if they turn on
you. In the US, we try to live in the real world.
Did you know that women in Saudia Arabia are not allowed to have a
drivers license and drive a car?
Yes, I know. And I also know that the US is Saudi Arabia's most
traditional ally, and that the women's condition never seemed to
bother you when you buy their oil, of which you are their main
client.
It does bother us. Would you like us to wipe out Saudi Arabia and
annex it as part of the US? We could rename it Exxon Pumping
Station 29. It's certainly well within the realm of our military's
power. (It must bother you no end that the US has this awesome
capability...good thing for you that it's ONLY the US that has this
awesome capability).
Believe me, my friend, democracy will not spread unless we remove
the dictators by force. They will not leave under any other
scenario.
Correct, Neil B., peace is never achieved at a peace conference.
Throughout history peace has only come when one country completely
and utterly defeats the other. It isn't pretty, and I wish it
weren't that way. But thems the facts, Jack.

BTW, Jose, I see you average 90 posts a week on this forum (that's
13 a day, 7 days a week)!?!?! Perhaps we need a new "Jose forum"
since the 300D forum's getting a bit choked with all of your posts.

I'm English first, British second and European third. Actually
your recollection is rotten. Every European country stood up to
Germany as best as it was able. Britain was just more able. And
while Britain was fighting a war America watched while deciding
whether to do something about it. Nothing bad to say about the US
for joining in, but it could have been a little earlier.
I know plenty of Brits who gets peeved when I jest that they are Europeans, but that's beside the point.

The point is, no european countries (including the UK) stood up to Germany as Hitler came to power, built up his military machines, and annex neighboring countries. Only AFTER Germany invaded Poland, a treaty ally of the UK and France did they declare war on Germany. By then, they were too late. Even after the war broke out, most European countries quickly capitulated to Hitler's regime.
Two very good example of democracy created under American
occupation are Japan, West Germany
Er ......West Germany was allied forces not US occupation
Errr...they were occupied for a couple of years by Western Allies (dominated by US and UK) as a new government and infrastructure was built before they became a sovereign nation and a part of allied force. What, did you think they instantaneous went from **** dictatorship to a democratically elected federal republic? Without a short occupation, there would have been a long anarchy after the fall of the previous regime.
