back to canon service, sent it out today because it started the error 99 on every press of the shutter button, here's the letter i sent with it, i got a little mad towards the end, i called but the lady would not let me talk to a person incharge, next time i call and ask for a person in charge i will not give any other information until i get someone higher up. I will probably get my camera back in little pieces after they read this letter. The lady did say it would be top priority since it is it's second visit and wasn't fixed the first time, blah, blah. typed it in word perfect, i made all the error 99 text in bold so they could see just how annoying it is, anything in caps i made in bold also, i'm mailing it to the ceo just for the hell of it, probably won't ever read it, i leave off the bottom part where i threatened them, LOL.

For those that don't know this is the second thread i titled my camera is gone.

Dear canon service,

This is the SECOND TIME I have had to send this camera to you, the first time you received it on Jan 8 2004 and had it there for 28 days. The camera was returned to me with the same error 99 problem, under service details it states “check cleaning, If problem persists please forward with the lens. As I stated in my first letter the lens doesn’t matter, the camera displays error 99 with NO LENS ON THE BODY, but I am sending the kit lens with it anyway. I’m am getting an error 99 message every time I push the shutter now, when I first received the camera back from you it worked for 6 pictures then gave me an error 99, after playing with it for a day it started to work better, maybe I could take 40 pictures without an error, but rest assured I’ve gotten many errors since it came back from your service department. For lenses I have the kit lens, 400mm f5.6L, 50mm f1.8, all canon lenses and all give an error 99, I’ve tried to take pictures with NO LENS and no flash card and still I get an ERROR 99. As you can probably tell by now I’m sick and tired of getting this error, as it stands right now I get the error every time and have to turn it off and back on only to get the error again. The shutter sounds like it is sick and makes a clunk sound compared to the way it sounds when it actually takes a picture. When I checked on my camera I was told that it was awaiting parts, well no parts were replaced so what took so long for you to send my camera back unrepaired? I do not want to get this camera back again unrepaired, nor do I want to wait 28 days to get my camera back, if you cannot repair my camera in a timely manner then please send me a new one or refund my money and I will buy a new one. I am sending a copy of this letter to the CEO of canon USA. I don’t know how else I can explain the problem, if for some reason the camera works perfectly upon inspection please do not just send it back to me with the same check cleaning if problem persists message, the problem persists! I expect to receive a new or repaired camera within 14 days after you receive this one or I will start to write and call whomever I need to in order to solve this problem. By the way it took 12 days for my camera to enter the work area ( whatever that means) the first time I sent it in, to me that is an unacceptable amount of time. Maybe I am just unrealistic.

I EXPECT THIS CAMERA TO GO TO THE HEAD OF THE LINE OR I EXPECT A NEW CAMERA!!

Thank You,

Paul Pfau

Canon 300D FAQ: http://www.marius.org/fom-serve/cache/3.html
they said it ain't gonna happen, i won't buy the next digital rebel unless it has selectable focus options, didn't realize Ai servo was going to be such a hassle, i asked them to make it less sensitive the first time, but i don't think they did anything it's just as sensitive as it ever was, maybe more.

his original camera is broken and broken badly. he should get a new
camera.
I think he was saying their customer service was ridiculous, i don't want a new camera, i will be happy with this one fixed, i only said that because i don't believe i should have to wait another 28 days, if that's the case then they should send me a new camera instead. I really feel it's the shutter, it sounds like it looses power on the down stroke of the mirror, it sounds like it was getting worse than the first time i sent it, atleast i squeezed another 1,000 or so pics out of it, but i missed a lot because of the error as well.
Here's hoping you get a new camera out of the deal.

Good luck!

UGH... Good luck Paul.

Please let us know what happens. Not only do I want to know if you get it fixed this time, but if you manage to get the ear of someone other than the receptionist who answers the phone.

This is inexcusable. I've heard it over and over again that Canon reads these forums, it's too bad we can't leverage the visability of DPReview to get an explanation (if not resolution). If Phil did interviews, one of the first I'd want to see is his interview with the head of Canon Service, USA.

Good Luck!

I doubt ritz or any retailer would do much after that amount of time, taken approximately 10,000 pics since them, i'm sure i've pushed the shutter more than that, it doesn't record a picture when it gives me the error 99.

, but i expected better, what really gets me is the fact that they had told me it was awaiting parts, but when i finally got the actual service center on the phone it was shipped out the next day and nothing was replaced, guess it wasn't really awaiting parts, can't wait to see what they tell me the status is this time, if they had realized a newer version with more controls i would have allready bought it and sold whatever i get back from canon factory service on ebay, i will most definately buy my next camera through bestbuy and pay for the replacement warranty, hopefully they will still carry the canon dslr's after all the ones they've had to replace, seems a lot of people on here have had their's replaced through bestbuy allready.

Recent posts have discussed BB replacing their DRs rather than clean the sensors! Surely you would have been given a new camera with the problems you have had.

again, Paul. You are absolutely right - BB or Sears is the way to go. My 1st DR went back to Sears the moment I noticed the flash malfunctioning. I got a new one, and to me the sharpness, colors and contrast of the kit lens is much better that the first one. Funny, but it's true.

Keep us posted.

Hope this visit will be the last for you, and the camera will be fine.

DC
Since they allready had it once i felt the best thing to do was send it to them again, i figured if i sent it to California they would have taken longer since it's never been there before, maybe it would show up in their system as being serviced, but i wasn't sure how connected they are at canon.

Printed out a letter to Mr. Kinya Uchida, the president and CEO of canon usa, it will go out tommorrow, i mentioned that he will likely receive my letter before his service center receives the camera. I included the letter i sent to the service center along with my thoughts of canon service. I bet he never even reads it. I love wordperfect, didn't even know i had it on my dell, it does everything for you. All manufacturers that p!ss me off should watch out from now on, i have lots of stamps. It will be interesting to see if this letter expedites the repair process.
