The Kodak web site clearly states that the slr/n is covered by a "world wide warranty".

I'm hoping that Jay can confirm this to be the case, and that slr/n cameras under warranty can be repaired at any kodak service centre worldwide during the warranty period.

Thanks in advance Jay.

They are only valid and supported in the country of initial purchase...

For Example... If you buy a camera in the U.S., the warranty is only supported in the U.S..

You can often buy a "local" warranty for additional cost from Kodak in your country..

You should confirm availability and cost for this option with Kodak locally before you consider buying a camera from a dealer or person in another country..

If the below is the case please explain the following text taken from Kodak's own website under Q&A for the SLR/n? the relevant link is:

http://www.kodak.com/global/en/professional/products/cameras/proSLR/qAndA.jhtml?id=0.1.18.18.5.14.8&lc=en

The below reads as though there is a world wide warranty with "extended" warranty programs available on a country by country basis.

I would also comment that several other manufacturers such as Fuji honour warranties world wide.

What about camera warranty, service programs?

The DCS Pro SLR/n will have a one-year warranty, with service provided at Kodak Service Centers worldwide. Various extended warranty programs are available through dealers of KODAK PROFESSIONAL Imaging Solutions on a country-by-country basis.

Jay Kelbley are USA warrranties for Kodack's purchased outside the States? I live in Japan but may want to sell later on EBAY. Can I get one? I am waiting to get your new baby. Can't wait really,

I used to live in Finland until three years ago. Currently, I live in Italy. I'll move to another country in a while. As Kodak operates in all of the three countries, I would expect it to give me support.
For Example... If you buy a camera in the U.S., the warranty is
only supported in the U.S..
Also I got a different impression from Kodak's website.

i bought from MACK a international 3 years warranty. costs for digital cameras under $ 3.000,-- $69,--. they have in the states their own service centers, outside from us they cooperate with authorized dealers ( = kodak) that they will pay the bill for mending the camera, if something will brake.

Hi,

I guess like many other outfits the Dealers in each country fund the Warranty (not Kodak) and therefore feel that fixing camera sourced outside there area as chargeable.

In Australia Kodak are imported by Kodak, and I'd imagine this to be the case in most of the larger countries.

However they have downsized a massive amount here & it seems all over the world. In the capital city I live in there are 5 main pro resellers, all of whom are really p* ed with Kodak due to bad pr from the 14n & poor back up from Kodak Australia.

When asking after the slr/n a typical response was Kodak who? or they won't even have an office here in another year or two, or even "everyones selling their Nikon based gear & moving over to the Canon 1ds".

One dealer even advised a customer to purchase from B&H because "they can't get anywhere near the US price" and in any case "you can get stock quicker from the US than we can".

The unfair policy of slugging well inflated prices for countries outside the states won't last - all that will happen is that Kodak will just start closing down branches all over the world.

Wake up Kodak & start being fair to buyers from other places than just the US, the internet has changed things and you need to "get real" about it or eventually become a relic.

Particularly for anyone living in a large land mass such as Europe it is a crazy policy to expect an slr/n owner to ship their camera back to the UK for instance because they moved to France for example.

To boot Kodak's global pro website gives the definite impression that they provide warranty service "worldwide" then Jay says no way.

Kodak assembles, ships, & bills product from head office in the USA. I can't see how they couldn't easily build in to any invoice charged to either a Kodak subsidery office / distributor a charge that covers any warranty service anywhere.

Personally I'd prefer to support the local Kodak office and keep it afloat but not at a surcharge of 60% more than US pricing.

Kodak are fortunate that at the minute their only competitor is Canon for FF - that gives them one more 2nd chance with the slr/n if it's as good as it appears. They also need to back it to the hilt with fair worldwide pricing & service then they too may start to turn a profit like Canon.

Sorry about the rant, but I see this as Custer's last stand for Kodak - get it right & fair or surrender - I hope Jay & others at the big yellow father are listening or they'll become the big yellow grandfather that will be remembered as yesterday's hero.

Boy that feels better!!!!

With a Macintosh laptop comouter the warranty is actually worldwide. Its of course a portable device like a camera and the Apple policy reflects this. I would think that other companies can do the same. I agree that the Kodak "worldwide" warrnty is misleading.
What can we do Jay?

Hi,

Here in the UK is Kodak UK and I guesss Kodak Auz for you. They have to make a profit in there own right!

Here in the UK Kodaks support is very poor too!.

Amen to that.

Kodak Canon etc can give any number of excuses and reasons, but the bottom line is we can see the prices in country's all over the world, a slight increase for shipping etc I can swallow.......but come on the 14n is still advertised at over £4000. in the UK.
That is just robbery.

I do not care how Kodak organise their company and make their own extra middlemen like Kodak UK.

What we want is a fair deal and to be treated as equals, why does the USA only get special prices on top of an already cheaper price?

Looks like the SLRn could be a real winner, don't spoil it by ripping off the rest of the world.

in germany they sell actually the 14n for the old price app. 5200€ + 16% =
app. $ 7670,--.

the slr appears, they say in the 11. week,- this is end of march for 4500€ + 16% = app $ 6639,--
great idea to sell the new model 1000 $ cheaper than the ol one... isnt it?
how will feel clients here if one would buy now a 14n?.

anyway in ebay the 14n appears cheaper now....
but the kodak politics seems to be really intelligent it seems.

It seems that everyone outside the US feels the same way - so I hope Kodak manage to see the light - excuse the pun!

Otherwise Kodak will just bring about gradual decline outside of America but perhaps make people like Mack or DHL very happy.

I guess they do at least get to help their balance of payments, but in the long term it's not the way to go.

Thanks to those who have voiced an opinion, to anyone who hasn't yet please do as maybe then Kodak might think about things a little.

Cheers,

Alex who are you Alex? If our support is so poor why have we not spoken or emailed???

I am always available by phone and email and the Kodak switchboard know where to find me.

see you at Focus

Jay now that I have seen this thread grow I begin to wonder. Since the website says worldwide its easy to assume it means worldwide. But now I am not so sure. I have ordered the new camera here in Japan. But I am concerned about the warranty. If I cannot sell the camera later in the States on Ebay for example I am stuck with taking what a dealer would give me here when I move on. You know dealers have to make a profit on second hand cameras as well.

Can I get assurance that the camera would be supported by Kodak in the States if I am there or sell the camera there?
Daniel

even i am not Jay, but you should look for mack warranties. they offer worldwide warranty for 3 years for afortable prices... japan is although part of our world,, isnt it? so it should work this way. maybee the kodaks world is more little,- as their prices overseas and their "worldwide" warranty suggests...

ask this guy: [email protected] its andrew frausini and he has great prices for Mack warranties ( much cheaper than b+h...).
