However they have downsized a massive amount here & it seems all
over the world. In the capital city I live in there are 5 main pro
resellers, all of whom are really p* ed with Kodak due to bad pr
from the 14n & poor back up from Kodak Australia.
When asking after the slr/n a typical response was Kodak who? or
they won't even have an office here in another year or two, or even
"everyones selling their Nikon based gear & moving over to the
Canon 1ds".
One dealer even advised a customer to purchase from B&H because
"they can't get anywhere near the US price" and in any case "you
can get stock quicker from the US than we can".
The unfair policy of slugging well inflated prices for countries
outside the states won't last - all that will happen is that Kodak
will just start closing down branches all over the world.
Wake up Kodak & start being fair to buyers from other places than
just the US, the internet has changed things and you need to "get
real" about it or eventually become a relic.
Particularly for anyone living in a large land mass such as Europe
it is a crazy policy to expect an slr/n owner to ship their camera
back to the UK for instance because they moved to France for
example.
To boot Kodak's global pro website gives the definite impression
that they provide warranty service "worldwide" then Jay says no way.
Kodak assembles, ships, & bills product from head office in the USA.
I can't see how they couldn't easily build in to any invoice
charged to either a Kodak subsidery office / distributor a charge
that covers any warranty service anywhere.
Personally I'd prefer to support the local Kodak office and keep it
afloat but not at a surcharge of 60% more than US pricing.
Kodak are fortunate that at the minute their only competitor is
Canon for FF - that gives them one more 2nd chance with the slr/n
if it's as good as it appears. They also need to back it to the
hilt with fair worldwide pricing & service then they too may start
to turn a profit like Canon.
Sorry about the rant, but I see this as Custer's last stand for
Kodak - get it right & fair or surrender - I hope Jay & others at
the big yellow father are listening or they'll become the big
yellow grandfather that will be remembered as yesterday's hero.
Boy that feels better!!!!
Muzz
They are only valid and supported in the country of initial
purchase...
I used to live in Finland until three years ago. Currently, I live
in Italy. I'll move to another country in a while. As Kodak
operates in all of the three countries, I would expect it to give
me support.
For Example... If you buy a camera in the U.S., the warranty is
only supported in the U.S..
Also I got a different impression from Kodak's website.
