Here's My Flag Picture - Do you have one?

Last weekend in Alberta Canada.

Cropped the bottom buildings out.

I was at Sears a few weeks ago and decided to take a picture of the
Flag in their parking lot, I liked the way it came out as I always
like flag pictures because they are so colorful...what do you think
of this perspective?

Here are two of my favorites. Of course, they were back in my Nikon days, but I do shoot a 300D now, so I'm calling this forum home.

Natalia,

Yes, the filter is called, Lomoize. The original version plus a new version 2 is available for free. It is a Photoshop "action".

I find it works very well. The instructions on how to tweak the action is also on this page. Download it and let me see a couple of your lomograpic pics!

Billy, number 3 I ran a special filter to give it a look like it
was shot in "Lomograpy" style. It has vignetting (sp) around the
edges, the colors are saturated, lots of good contrast, etc.

I insist! You must tell me. I always keep a bottle of Stoli's in my freezer. If there is a better Russian vodka, I must have it imported into the US! :D

'Fess up. Give me brands names...

-Neil
nope...you know us Russian? We're quite tough:)
I didn't know you were Russian. I only know one word in Russian and
it will always be my favorite: Stolichnaya. ;)

to put up a flag in front of your house except on national holidays....

Uncle,

In many communities in the US, restrictive covenants enforced by neighborhood associations forbid erecting a flagpole in front of a home! In a few cases, even flag staffs are prohibited. "Aesthetic uniformity", you know!

Now if only Betsy Ross had had Martha Stewart's sense of taste . . .!

Best regards,

Doug

Even worse is when businesses [ab]use the flag for attention. An auto dealer close to my house has the biggest flag I've ever seen. The pole is huge and the flag almost goes down to the street when its not windy.

The reason is obvious. They are just trying to an attention grab. Before they recently replaced the thing it was almost in tatters from being left on so long.

A properly cared for flag on a pole attached to a house has more meaning that 100 of these attention/marketing grabs. Of course I think the same argument can be made for the person trying to put 100 foot pole in the front of their house.

I like the colors, they are very rich and the picture is quite sharp. Infact the picture is sharp enough for me to see that the flag they are flying needs to be replaced. Now I'm not an expert on the rules of flying our flag mind you, but I was in ROTC in college and we learned that

a) you never let the colors touch the ground.
b) if a flag is tattered it is not to be flown.
c) if a flag is flown at night it is to be lit
d) the colors are not flown in inclement weather
e) if the colors are flown upside-down it is a sign of severe distress
f) when raising a flag to half mast you raise it to full mast then lower it.

f) when bringin down a flag in half mast you raise it to full mast then lower it.
g)the flag is always folded in a triangle with the blue field exposed.

cough sorry if that sounds impertinent...all those years in the honor guard gave me a great love for our countries flag and what it represents.

Correct me if I am wrong but I went to San Antonio a few years ago and one of the tour guides on a tour we went on said that Texas was the only state in the Union that made an agreement with Washington when they joined that they could fly the Texas flag at the same height as the American flag next to each other.
Old pic, taken with a 717, probably should have been cropped
better, but too much crop would take away from it, and I couldn't
get a good angle to get rid of the stonework.
