Excepting file size, is there anything about the Mark II that turns you off? Does the cmos instead of ccd concern you?

Just judging from the specs; nope. Nothing turns me off. But I'll reserve my final judgement untill we get a couple of them to try out.

If the camera delivers on it's specs and the previews, than it's a no-brainer.

Much less noise at higher ISO (even at same 4MP resolution) is enough to justify switching from 1D to M2. Lots of indoor action happening at poor light! And at 8MP + improved AF + less noise = great choice. Add here the higher dymanic range - let pray for it to materialize!

Nothng from the new 1DMkII turns me off it, the whole package is brilliant.

I have never needed to use 1/500th flash sync, and if i do, i would just use my 550 flash function for high shutter speed sync.

read the manual on the 550EX, thay can shoot up to 1/8000th sec with the correct settings

The folks from Kodak raved about the 14N before it came out and that turned out to be a joke.

Now, Chuck Westfall is very reputable and I respect his comments, but it's the working pros such as yourself Ken that I'd trust. Hearing from Eastwood and Pope tells me more than a Canon rep.

It sounds like a great camera, the only thing that would get me to
switch from the 1D though is much less noise at ISO 1600 and above

... and pulled, of course. They certainly beat my EOS-1D ... and they will only get better. I may have to have one of those ...

I agree with your statement btw...My point is just that I tend to take the manufacturer's points with a grain of salt...

... an object moving at high speed across the frame may appear slanted with high speed flash, as it is essentially a series of exposures taken as the shutter slit moves downward ... leaving our subject in a different position each time.

Note that a 1/1000ths exposure takes a whole lot more time than 1/1000th. A 1/250th exposure takes the same time as a 1/8000!
The EOS-1D was immune from this ...

Well if Ken is a canon Rep, who cares?

My local CPS have told me similar information, and they know that if i spend $16,000 AUD on 2 new bodies, they want me to be happy with the product, or I wont support the brand anymore.

I have a very good relationship with Canon and CPS, and they support me 100 WITH ANY AND ALL PROBLEMS I encounter. If Ken is a Rep, thankyou for your information it has been taken into consideratiuon and is a Pro for me, not a CON.

I also trust that Canon wont upset the fulltime working pro's. Look at Getty's, they are now 100% Canon, if Canon produced a substandard camera, they would lose that huge multi national client to Nikon. I dont think Canon would want to lose how many millions of dollare Getty would spend on equipment every year.

Kodak dont rate here, we only care about what Nikon have, and how Canon beat Nikon with price, product and style.

Ok Ken, but it still works though.
I have put my mates 10D to the test and the photos came out fine.
SO i have no problem with only 1/250 flash sync...

If the 10D can do it, the MkII can definatley do it.

The 14N was being praised when it was still vaporware. When it finally hit the streets it was instantly determined to be a dog - still is. Like a 400HP Pinto. :-)

Meanwhile, Canon put the 1D-II on the sidelines of the Superbowl just a week after it's announcement.

I'm reserving final judgement too till after some reviews but we already know this baby is gonna be KILLER !

I'm not questioning the MKII...I'm in line to buy one for goodness sake..

My point is that I trust working pros and customers that have used a product over any company representative on any given day. That's all my point is. I wasn't saying the MKII hype is like the 14N hype...I'm just saying that a company rep is going to hype their product whether it's true or false...That's it!

If its the CMOS vs. CCD you're worried about, thankfully the 1D2 isn't the guinnea pig...the 1DS was. And look at the flop THAT turned out to be!

Joking.

From my point of view, I LOVE the CMOS because that means I will have longer battery life with my 70-200 IS.

more than a wedding, landscape or portrait camera?

If so, my respect to the guys and gals with those big cards and hard drives!!! :-)

I'd love to have one, but the Mark II is starting to sound like EXACTLY what I'm needing.

I'll sit this this version out. The Mark II is apparently geared toward wedding photographers...

http://digitalphotographers.infopop.cc/ ... ...p;f=7836081955&m=1046081955

and custom print, enthusiasts, and possibly some advertising and commercial photogs.

As for PJs, remember that newspapers and standard magazines print at 200 and 300 dpi respectively, and the 1D has enough resolution for that media, with headroom to spare. Plus, Canon's large-pixel CCD has a distinctive sizzle that many PJs have come to prize, and the images seem to better hold that crispness in print.

So I'm now thinking about upgrading my D30 instead, I don't like CMOS for news and sports, and will be looking closely at Nikon's new compact D70, which looks exciting as a grab-and-go companion.

THe MKII is awesome especially for sports

The 1D is already awesome but the MarkII will make it even better

Why ?

1) Resolution

First you have more which is good for the times you need it. If you dont need it you can downsize the image and get better low noise performance by averaging noise by downsizing.
If you mind the large file size for certain shoots shoot at 4MP.

2) New flash system
This should be one of the big ones

3) Battery performance

somehwhere in the 1200 - 1800 shots range. Niiice. And compatible with my 1D batts

4) Better AF performance
The 1D is already awesome but this will be even better.

5) Maybe better image quality - will have to see
