IMHO the pro forum is even less interesting, on average, than this one, and has a higher number of repetitive and "i was just wondering" posts. Less trolls, but kind of "forum lite" in a lot of ways. I think a few people are hoping (against hope, and against human nature) that somehow splitting this forum will achieve what labeling a forum "Pro" couldn't.
Why/how are all these ppl seemingly coming out of the woodwork to
suddenly voice their opinions? Pardon me if you're a long time
lurker, J Pal.
There's already a Pro Talk Forum, so why can't all the
dissatisfied/disgruntled pros just go congregate over there, and be
done with this forum, leaving this one as it stands now?

I am baffled by the people who are voting "no". How could a simple two-way split possibly hurt? All it is going to do (in both cases) is make it easier to separate the chaf from the wheat.

Again, wheres the rolleyes when I need one?

No please do not spilt

With an elite forum, what you get is a forum that has very little traffic. I don't know what's worse, a forum with too much, or not enough traffic. I guess my votes tells my preference...more traffic! I'll say it again, if we gotta go 2 or 3 pages deep, to seek out a particular subject line, or poster, what's the big deal? It's better than going off to several different forums!

Well it cuts both ways, depending on the vote in question, but I certainly have only a few posts to my name but have been reading here a long while. I guess Phil will have to make a determination afterward, omitting those votes from posters who suddenly stop posting after the vote itself dies down.

OR he could check the IP address probably, that would be a dirt simple way to tell if someone registered a second, false user with a spare email address, so they could double their vote tally (or triple or quadruple - providers like Comcast offer something like 5 email addys).

At least there are no punch cards. : )

and instead of sharing, agreeing, disagreeing, or voicing their own opinion, they feel the need to try to express their own superiority, call others inferior, and by and large lack decent group social skills.

Which is another reason I don't frequent this place that much anymore - it's full of people who can't make a statement without sneering. If it gets harder to work with (it's already five forums, if you're really a Nikon user - Kodak SLR, Fuji SLR, Nikon SLR, Nikon Lens, and Nikon forum, the best of the bunch) it's not worth the time. And i'll be happy to let those who need a place to sneer, have one.
at some point it becomes too big of a pain to check multiple
sources of info
You'll have to check two forums instead of one. Cry me a river.. if
you've got time to post in here every day, you've got time to make
an extra click or two. Common.

I remember a comedy sketch where all the trade union leaders at a meeting voted to have tea during the drinks break, except the last one asked and he voted for coffee. However, his union had more members than all the other unions put goether, so everyone had to have coffee.

Giving more weight to someone's vote because they have made a lot of postings strikes me as similar.

Imagine another scenario : you arrive at the voting booth at the polling station. You are 18. You are turned away because you have not voted before and at age 18 you cannot be expected to have formed a valid opion.

I think we can all agree that this would be unacceptable.

I have been registered for sometime and I lurk everywhere on this board - often following leads from the "hot threads" table on the front page. I gain information from many threads in many forums. I am sure other people have not registered and still read lots and gain value. That they have not registered or posted before does not make their votes irrelevant. You have no idea how long people have been reading a forum - and gaining benefit from it.

I'm not voting as I don't want to upset anyone. But if I did vote - perhaps n the expectation of buying a D70 soon - I would expect my vote to be counted and to be equal with everyone elses.

Regards,
Duncan
