Dear All,

I noticed in many, many photos with a Canon 24-85 USM and 10D, orrible lines in the bottom of the image when I track objects or people or something moving and in very good light. These lines qre very visible and only in the bottom.
Do you know something about it? Have you noticed this problem on your pics?
I didn't notice with my Ef 1,8
Thank you very much for your help, this forum is great

First upload it to a website. Pbase and smugsmug are very popular for this. Then bring up the image you want to post in the forum. Right click on the image, choose properties and copy the image address. Paste that address in your forum message and it will be shown inline.

If you want to post a particularly large image, put a semicolon directly after the image address when you paste it in your message. This will produce a link to your image instead of it being displayed immediately. Modem users will thank you for that.

Thanks Roy

Agreed... This site sucks for postings images. You have to have it posted elswhere in net like pbase.com. Phil, why not use a simple "browse" button??

Because that would mean that the images have to be hosted by dpreview itself. Are you going to pay the storage/backup/bandwidth bills?

You talking about the banding thats showing in the red barrier and at the bottom of that pic? I had to adjust the pic quite a lot to see em
Looks like it may be a sensor issue???

Try this , set your lens to f22 or so , take a pic of a blank piece of paper and in PS use AUTO LEVELS to adjust it , this will show any dust on your sensor or if there are "streaks" , you might need a sensor clean.

Have you tried to replicate this with another copy of that same lens? Perhaps the lens is faulty too , especially if you havent noticed it with your 1.8??

For the life of me , I can't really see how it could be a lens problem , but you never know.

Looks like your monitor needs calibrating.. I had no problems of seeing them and they are horrible!

I also have 24-85 but I have not yet used AI-focusing so can't say anything about the problem but it's not likely the lens.

I was just thinking of that when I re-read my post... :-) Phil is continuously upgrading his servers, so there's money in it somewhere. Plus, he can continuously set the site to delete messages/photos after they have been on for a certain period of time - say after 1/2 months. Not a difficult thing to do and I have seen that on other sites. When I first saw this site, I was surprised he wasn't charging for the reviews alone! :-))

I use a Cornerstone 21" monitor as well as a Viewsonic 21" professional monitor , both used for viewing output to large format digital printers (74" wide 1440 DPI ) as well as using it for viewing output to various other printing devices, CAD applications etc.

Calbrated workflows are vital in this field and cost us a fortune to get right , we print for ad agencies , photographers and so forth on these devices and we run a WYSIWYG workflow with controlled lighting for viewing and so forth. The lower bits of that photo were pretty dark and would have printed that way , only in the red barrier was there a lot of evidence of the banding. (I didnt download the original size file , just what was displayed )

With the AF running it could be causing an problem with the power if it is not properly regulated. I have heard of it happening before. I certainly would try another lens in servo mode.

so there's money in it somewhere.
Server investments pay back for themselves: faster response and increased capacity/reliability means more visitors. More visitors means more revenue from banner ads. Hosting images doesn't pay for anything.
Plus, he can continuously set the site to delete messages/photos
after they have been on for a certain period of time - say after 1/2

Now that would be a royal nuisance. What if I want to look up something from a thread that's 3 months old. All images will be gone by then. So should we all just repost the same messages every 1-2 months?

He certainly will have to when he has to pay for the storage, and especially the bandwidth to host hundreds, if not thousands of images files.

Also, using a browse button, how would you control where the image appears in your message? And is it really that much of an effort to upload your files to pbase and do a quick copy&paste of its address? Also, how could I remove an image if I wanted to?

Roy.

Infact when I try SERVO mode with my 50 F1,8 I can't see the lines.....
I think I'll ship the camera and lens to Canon on Monday

I noticed you used iso 800 on the shot, check what you used on the 50 f1.8, I had to return a 10D because of a line of dead pixels across my sensor that were more visible the higher the iso, at iso 100 you couldnt really see them at all but by 400 they were really noticeable this could be something similar.

Howdy,

this is actually a fairly common problem with the 10D. It is indeed USM interference from 'cheap' lenses at high ISO. I have it with my 28-135 for example.

Here's a previous thread where I discussed this before: http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1019&message=5341091
