I'm very new to photography, but my personal opinion is that this is a terrific photo!! I think the plant and your beautiful little girl look great together. Again, this is just my humble opinion though. : )

Bloody kiwis, always coming up with the goods. Next thing you'll be claiming Peter Jackson and Russell Crowe! Just don't forget Joh Bjelke Peterson was a Kiwi too, so you're not all perfect!

ps I have a Kiwi passport so I'm not immune.
Hi all,

here's a shot I took of my daughter, outside in the late evening. I
quite like it, but wonder if perhaps the plant that she is behind
is too distracting?

As always, your critiquing is welcomed.

Kit lens at 55mm.
100 ISO.
1/25 sec (hand held).
Sigma EF500 DG provided the fill-in at -2/3 FEC.

She's actually only just turned 2 ;-)

Yep, she loves the camera, but not when she's in front of it - If she spies me with it, she'll let me take a shot, then come running over shouting 'look, look', demanding that I show her the review. She even liles to hold the camera in her tiny little hands and jab away at the buttons, trying to be just like her daddy. And I hope that when she's old enough, she too will have some interest in photography.

My youngest is two and she does the same thing.... Those wonderful twos.

--Real sweet picture, I like the plant & her expression. If I had to pick some nits I find the background kind of distracting, it would benice to see it a little bit more out of focus.

The face/look over powers everthing else. One of he few centered photos that I have viewed that works.
That's what I was looking for comment wise - I hummed and harred
about cropping the image due to the background, but decided to
leave as is and take a chance with it.
Perhaps if I'd shot it with the 50mm 1.8 I would have achieved less
DOF and blurred the background more...
