Do you keep your cam in your car at all times?

I've read on some of these posts where some folks always have their cam with them. Do you keep it in your car at all times? I would like to do this so I'm always ready, but I'm afraid the heat and the cold, especially the heat in our Texas summers, would damage the camera. My car is either in my home garage or office garage most of the time, but naturally there are times when it's not. Or do you just put it in there every time you're getting ready to go somewhere?

My camera is in my car when I am in my car driving, if that is what you mean. I usually have my camera handy wherever I go.

It travels with me, I don't leave it in the car very long. If the weather is hot or wet I'll take it in the office.

Hi Brenda,

I have an s400 that literally goes with me everywhere. I'm in the process of looking for a long zoom camera with manual controls, but I doubt that I would take it along with me all the time as I do with the s400.

Brenda, I live in Austin where it is super hot all summer. I use my camera for work. I fix air conditioners for a living so everywhere I go it's hot. I mainly use it to show my customers the problems that is wrong with their A/C's. If it has burnt wires or parts, I take a picture of it so that they don't have to climb a roof or an attic to see what I am talking about. I keep my 5000 in the truck year round. The camera gets banged around and it gets super hot sitting in the truck while I am troubleshooting the equipment. I have never had any problems with it, so I'm sure you will be fine. Before the 5000, I used my 990, before that my 950. No problems with non of them and the Texas heat in the truck.

... at all times. The 990 goes where I'm carrying a smaller bag but I'd NEVER leave my babies in the car, anywhere! Kids have been known to break into cars just for the change in the ashtray. I'd hate to lose my baby due to theft. Never mind the vast temperatures it would be exposed to! Keep this in mind: how would you feel if you lost it or it stopped working due to being left in the car?? Can you live with that feeling? no, then don't do it!! ! LOL

most of the time. Grab it when I get into the car and may leave it there for a very brief moment if I get out for a short time and do not expect to have any photographic opportunities (and then it is always hidden out of sight). Most of the time I end up not using it, but it is worth it for the times when I do.

Kind regards

On weekends I always keep my camera in my car when I'm going somewhere. If I'm leaving it in the car, I'll move it to the trunk so that potential theifs don't see it and want to steel it. Unfourtantely, during the warmer months, I cannot take it to work with me, becuase camera's aren't allowed in the building for security purposes. But besides then, yes, I try to bring it with me always.

different category, I suppose, that most respondents to your question. I have the 990, 5700 and the D100, so it depends on where I'm going and what I have to do..., but one of them goes with me. If I want to or have to travel light, its the 990 in a belt case. If I think I'm going to have time for more serious shooting the D100 bag goes. Everything else the 5700 is it.

I have heard what I should call rumors that LCD's can freeze if it gets cold enough. And in Northeast Ohio it can get very cold. I might leave it in the car for a short period of time but try to avoud more than a couple of hours. I am not as worried about the heat as I am the cold. So far there have been no ill effects. I travel for my job daily so the camera is with me all the time in the car. I feel that the camera bag itself can offer some insulation as it is line with 1/4 or 1/2 foam.

Brenda -

The temps here range from 110 in the heat of summer to -17 in the coldest of winter.

I carry my digital camera with me in my truck always!

I'm only a 2 month CP5400 owner but my previous camera (an entry level Kodak 2mp camera) has lived in my truck for 2 years now with no ill effects, I hope my Nikon will weather as well (no pun intended)....

Yep, my 5400 is sitting in my truck now and waiting for those "My God look at that" pics....

Too many sad stories about stolen cameras. I keep a small digital in my purse at all times.

I live in southern Utah where the summer temps are usually 100+ and I always have my 5700 with me. I keep a small Igloo Cooler (6 pack size) in the vehicle to hold my camera if I'm going to be away for a couple of hours. It seems to insulate well because the camera has gotten warm, but never very hot. I used this system successfully for years with my film cameras, which were far more sensitive.

Don't leave your house without the camera!
Don't leave your car without the camera!
Don't live without the camera! :)

Carry mine with me , in a bag/portfolio. Besides, car does get too hot/cold, as you said.
