VOTE HERE to WAKE UP Canon - Part II

This is the old message:

Okay now the D70 is out, I think it IS time for Canon to finally
wake up
from its 3-months of business dream-run and start to put consumer
first rather than trying to short-change us.

I urge all the 300D / DR users to vote 'Yes' on the proposal to
un-cripple the 300D / DR with a free firmware upgrade. Namely, give
us

1. FEC control
2. Selectable metering mode - including spot metering if possible
3. Selectable focus mode
4. E-TTL II (with distance exposure)

Also, we demand an explanation of the future of EF-S lens (since
1Ds Mk II is not EF-S compatible), is there going to be a lens
similar to Nikon 17-70mm in the near future?

Just hit reply and say "Yes" on the subject heading.

Come on, guys! Let's send a wake-up call to Canon because it seems
like Nikon is brewing coffee already!

I would probably join a request or recommendation from users to
Canon to upgrade the firmware with "hidden" features, but I object
to the way this was stated from the beginning - "demanding" changes
from Canon who would not care about its customers and "fighting"
for change - not only is this approach unjustified, it may also be
counterproductive - Canon would not want to be seen buckling under
pressure. Let's put things in perspective - just a few years ago I
was shooting with my brand new VGA camera which cost almost as much
as the Rebel today, until last year a DSLR was a distant dream, and
now that Canon has finally put a DSLR within reach of the regular
Joe, we feel shortchanged?
That was my thinking too. It was the way this particular quest was worded ("we demand", "trying to short-change us") and the reasoning behind it and the blanket assumption that the OP was speaking for all of us. It was the tone of the opening post I objected to, not the principle behind it, although I think it's a pretty futile endeavour. I think there were perhaps better ways of presenting it to Canon.

I for one am thrilled with the Rebel just the way it is. The Nikon doesn’t mean a thing to me because I don’t have any Nikon lenses or accessories to go with it. I really hardly ever feel very limited by my rebel and I feel like it was worth every penny that I spent on it. Of course if Canon did come out with a new firmware update to give the camera more features that would be great too.

That actually is a pretty good point. Wouldn’t you be mad if you paid the extra for a 10D and then right after that Canon releases a free firmware upgrade for the 300D that basically turns it into a 10D. I would be mad as anything if that happened to me.

this makes sense. But yesterday when I said about the same thing some guy just couldn't understand the concept. We all have different needs ands POVs at times!

I can’t comment on the false advertising; perhaps you could elaborate.

Caveat emptor.

Fixing a glitch is one thing however, asking Canon for a newer feature rich firmware revision is an entirely other matter.
Beside..it is not clear nor well explaned how the focusing will
work...even their tech support cannot answer how it will
behave..they simply reply "it is up to the camera to make that
decision"

No concern if it if the right one or not. Now we need a fix.
Canon can adjust the sensitivity of the AI servo too..as they did
it for my camera.
Why Should Canon do this?

Did they twist any of your arms to purchase the camera?

If you wanted more features you should have bought the 10D?

Together, we are strong...

Within another couple of hours, the number will reach the maximum again... and I will start another thread...

Won't give up until

1. Canon respond to us - either promises us a firmware upgrade or bluntly refuses to do so

2. Phil asks me not to start another one :)

110%
you can actually keep this rolling and rolling by starting new
threads all the time..part III, IV, V, VI....if canon'd monitor
this site, i'm sure it'd notice this:-)
