Seriously though, would ANYONE use the sd-slot for the actual memory?
Isn't it meant for the Data Verification-kit?

4gb SD just released. Market Objects indicates the price will be comparable if not below CF by mid year

The data verification kit works using SM (secure Mobile) card.. I have no clue how different it is from SD (Secure Digital).. The size is the same, but the name isn't..

arhh.. Don't worry about it..
I looked at the picture and saw an SD card as well before reading re-reading the text.. But Canon Does seem to be using more SD cards than ever.. 1D MkII reads CF and SD, there is a "pocket" camera by Canon that alose reads SD because of its size, now the DV kit reads SM.. I'm puzzled at the amount of media read by Canon..

... but, Nikkon has good speed in their CFs from lexar using that AdvandecWrite thing.. Canon doesn't seam to care much about it.. probably some marketing issues would force it to be too excensive.. But I really hadn't though about SD being faster.. still I have no clue..

The current top news item on this site is about the shipping of the first 1GB SD card, not 4GB; that capacity is only available in CF and microdrive. And 4GB microdrive costs the same as 1GB SD is expected to, US$499, with 1GB CF costing less than half that much.

dunno either ... but I think one of these little card designs is a lot faster, sonys memory stick pro is a lot faster too ...
I still will stick with CF .... also I think that a little lack of CF speed canbe compensated with relatiely cheap in camera buffer size

the whole SD dynamic is pretty interesting. matsushita has been pushing it quite a bit, you see laptops with SD slots, handhelds have it, now cameras. but it's just a new design away from pin contacts and more bandwidth per 'pin', plus for a lot of devices the from factor is more preferable - the CF feels like a shrunk pcmcia to me. but on the negative side it's smaller so you need higher density flash memory 'chips' to get to the same capacity i guees. it'll be interesting to see if SD manages to replace CF in the long run.

I only need speed from a CF when taking consecutive shots.. I don't mind the camera blinking the led during 1/2 hour as long as I'm not using it... As for reading from CF to PC, I usually dump everything from card to harddrive and work on the PC there after.. Usually, when there are a lot of photos, I can always go fetch myself a sandwich while the transfer is on the way
As for shooting raw, I decided to only do that in very special ocasions, because I don't have much control over raw with the G3.. so It's very unusual to wait more than 1 minutes for pictures to be downloaded to PC..

I guess I just like the idea of having a memory device that I can use in my phone, in my PDA, in my camera, in my vid cam and with a CF adaptor in any CF device. Now, try that with a CF - NO, won't work
