Yes, there are plenty of posts like this one but the biggest
difference is that both D70 and 1D Mk II are out. Therefore, we are
in a better position to see what the future holds for our newly
acquied $999 camera.
And we are definitely in dire strait.
Why? Our cameras suddenly lose quality or stop working because new models come out?
D70 is certainly more feature-rich than 300D.
And it's more expensive, and
NO-ONE has seen any pictures from it yet.
And 1D Mk II doesn't support EF-S (our kit lens may be a one-hit
wonder that value nothing more than dirt after couple of years). In
So what? The sensor is a different size on the 1D MK II (APS-H). The EF-S lens was designed for the APS-C sized sensor, and more to the point, was designed so that a quality low cost lens could be bundled with the 300D.
When you sell your 300D body, sell the EF-S lens with it. It will make it easier to sell and will add more value than the lens is probably worth on its own anyway.
addition, it has new E-TTL system (Yes, for those DR users who were
'semi-forced' to buy 550EX - yes, me too -, your 550EX is almost
certainly going to be replaced soon).
No-one is forcing anyone to do anything. E-TTL II is fully backward compatible.
All in all, it's hard for a DR user like me feeling short-changed
by Canon. And the last thing you want is for them to drop the price
or roll out a new model in 6-months.....
Yes, we are all so short changed aren't we? We got a fantastic camera at ground breaking prices and now some new models have come out. Boo Hoo... What a disaster...
Do you cry everytime Intel or AMD bring out a higher clocked CPU for a lower price. Do you cry that the latest video cards are faster and cheaper than the previous generations?
This is called progress you know...
That's why I call up everyone to show Canon that its users are not
happy and we are, after all, the people who pay for their kid's
university fees...
What on earth have university fees got to do with anything... What a bizarre diversion... Anyway, in the UK it is generally the students themselves who pay the university fees by means of a low interest loan.
Even if Canon didn't give us the firmware, if they change their
business practice (ie. no crippling but honest limitation), this
petition is deemed to be a successful one!
You haven't a prayer of Canon paying a blind bit of interest to any two bit petition. Market forces will determine what Canon's next move are, not a handful of owners. (And yes, you are a handful - Canon have been shipping 70,000 units per month since the product was launced. How many people have signed your petition?)
Quit the moaning and take some pictures.
