OK so we like it? Yes :)))

I read that too. We might be spoiled by Canon this time. Hopefully that would change a lot on my decision in buying it "now" or later.

I havent seen any good software from a camera manifacturer, but there is always a first time.

I have actually forgot that I live in USA now and I can return a faulty camera much more easily than it would be in Europe.

Andrea.
I think you will be able of exploiting properly the 8mp file only
if you have the right software. Otherwise there will not be much
gain from an Eos 1D ccd file or a 10D file and it is going to be
far from matching an EOS 1ds file properly converted in C1.
Sounds like the Canon software might end up being vastly improved,
so maybe there's a chance of doing good RAW conversions with a
decent workflow from day 1. Nice thought, anyway. :)

A more MP sensor in the D2H body might be a mean combination, if
only they can keep noise under control.
No offense to Canon, but if the D2h had been 8MP and a tad less noisy, I would have owned one before the 1DII was announced.

Perhaps Nikon stuck with 4MP because they knew they'd have a higher resolution 5fps D2x coming along. After all, a 8MP 8fps D2h and, say, a 10MP 5fps D2x would have been pretty close in specs. At least, the way things are, they seem like 2 distinct cameras.

....she would be a car.

Unfortunately grand mothers got old legs and walk slow.

Not that I compare the D2H to an old woman. It is just a funny Venetian old saying, which we use when to many "if" are around. :) LOL

I reckon that body on the D2H is truly great, and I think I might
hang on until next year, when hopefully Canon might come out with
their answer to it for an upgraded 1D2

Cute saying, but I don't think there are any if's about Nikon putting a higher MP sensor in a body comparable to the D2h's. It's just a matter of when the D2x will actually appear. If it's in the fall, I will have a 1DII long before then. If it's in a couple of months, I may have some deciding to do.

Mike

I just got my 1D at christmas time and I love it. But it will go up on ebay when I see the MKII in my local store. I am going to talk to them about a list.
.... OK then let's vote a vote of confidence in the new 1DMk11.

I’ll most likely buy one, reservations aside on this thread please.

So how soon are YOU buying?

I'll be upgrading. Anyone know of a reputable dealer that's taking pre-orders?

I pay no attention to Phil's "rating" at the end.

I simply look at the details.

I'm quite sure the 1D-II will be "highly rated". And I'd probably rate it that way, too.

Doesn't mean I want to upgrade from the 1D at this time, though.
It will be interesting to see how many of you saying "no" right now
will change your mind after Phil's review and he rates it "Highly
Recommend".

You'll be salivating to have one. BETCHA!!!

Heh.

Don't worry, DavidP will buy one, and afterwards, he'll start criticizing and complaining about its technical faults.

Photographers have been getting by without 1/500th flash sync for years now (i.e. the 1v only syncs to 1/250th sec). And, there are other means to get workable high ISO solutions (i.e. telling the club to turn up the lights a little bit?). Technology is but one variable in photography. I wish more people would understand that.

David-

it doesn't sound like you care anything about what you get, as long
as you get somewhere north of a workable ISO 6400 solution and a
1/500th flash sync.

Am I correct?

Not really.

There are other things I would've like to see . . . . eg, better AF system (think D2H placement of main cross-type sensors).

And if they'd added another stop of high-ISO, I might've traded that for giving up 1/500 X-sync.

The next time you show up at a concert or club with camera in hand to take pics for yourself, see if they'll change the lighting for you. LOL.

If the performer is paying you to do a shoot for him, then that's different.

If Nikon have trouble with noise at 4MP in a 1.5 factor sensor, just how noisy would 8 or 10MP be in the same size sensor?
It doesn't look good for Nikon at the top of the market.

In large concerts, yes, you'll have to deal with what lighting they give you. Most concerts will have good stage lighting.

At smaller clubs, on the other hand, the lighting people may be more amenable to your requests, especially if you have had prior experience with them.
