Andy,
There is also a database comparing different CF in DSLRs:
http://www.robgalbraith.com/bins/multi_page.asp?cid=6007
However, I have some questions that are not answered in any of these:
1. Microdrives are supposed to take more battery power. I can't find
any information that gives me an idea of approximately how much
time the battery will last on the F828 compared to a MS or CF.
2. I bought a 4gb Microdrive, and I have some Memory Sticks from my
F707. I am assuming that I can put both in an F828 at the same
time and switch between them. But, I haven't seen anything that
verifies this. I will receive my F828 tomorrow, so I will be able to test
this myself.
3. From the Rob Galbraith CF Database, different cards and Microdrives
perform VERY differently in different cameras. I haven't seen
anything that really compares the Memory Stick, Memory Stick Pro,
CF, and the Microdrives in the F828. I would like at least one media
that offers a fast shot-to-shot time. My perception is that the
Microdrive might be slower than the Memory Stick Pro or a fast CF.
If the Microdrive and Memory Stick Pro are equally fast, I would have short shot-to-shot capability with the Microdrive, and I can use my regular Memory Sticks when I don't need that capability. However, if both the Microdrive and regular Memory Stisks are slow compared to the Memory Stick Pro and fast CFs, I will probably sell the regular Memory Sticks along with my F707, and buy a large capacity Memory Stick Pro.
I feel I can't make these decisions without a comparison or trying a Memory Stick Pro, and I don't know anyone with a Memory Stick Pro that I can try. So far, I haven't found a comparison between these different types of media in an F828.
Phil's review only compares CF and Memory Stick Pro. I have Memory Stick and a Microdrive. Tomorrow I will be able to compare the two, but I won't know how they compare to the Memory Stick Pro or CF.
