It sure looks like one to me, I was actually out looking for Hawks, and came accross a couple of birds with white heads. The 200mm Lens has better vision than I do, but once I got the images loaded on the PC, and a couple of "screens" with GIMP, and... I think I may have found a winter hangout for some Blad Eagles :) - I could be wrong though, since I dont think Ive seen a Bald Eagle in the wild before..

Details:
Canon 300d
1/4000
f2.8
Iso 100
Canon 200mm f2.8 L

(I am not able to stop down my lens right now, because it is malfunctioning. and It metered on the Overcast sky)

I used GIMP and 2 layers of screen to bring out more detail.
then USM

and 100% crop.
They fly away if I get any closer then this..

That looks like an mature bald eagle to me.

We have a reserve about 75 miles from our house that has about 50 that find it ok to stay here for the winter.

Bald Eagles are my favorites, I assume you are not from the U.S., that is our national symbol and very well known.
If you are from the U.S. and didnt know what that was, Wow.

Cool picture, they are hard to sneak up on and get good shots.

Im from the US, but Im new to Photography and looking at birds and such, was more surprised that I stumbled on them so close to the city and my home , I still almost don't believe I did.

I know The Bald Eagle is the national bird ;) thats what makes it special.

Normally, I figure someone will say "Oh thats a turkey vulture, or thats just a ... (whatever)..."

Its great fun to run into something unexpected and actually be toting the Camera with intent to take pictures...

Thanks for confirming it tho...

You got the eagle, and I think I got your hawk. LOL

I was outside this afternoon and I scanned the trees on the far end of my neighbors yard when I noticed a large bird perched there. I had never seen one so big before!! I suspect that it may have been a hawk, but I'm not sure completely. I do know that in my area we rarely get "big" birds (such as hawks) so this was quite an impressive sight. I think I'll keep a closer eye on those trees for a while in hopes that it may come back.

I wasn't going to post this picture because it came terrible, but maybe someone may be able to see something in it that I don't (in terms of what this bird really is). This was taken with the Rebel of course, using the 75-300IS lens. Also, please note that I to was hanging from a tree in our yard to trying to get as close a look as possible. This, I'm sure, did nothing to help the photo quality.

Nice shots. Here's an eagle from our trip yesterday to the Cedar River.

I went back and checked my card and found another picture which is slightly better in quality. Here is a full picture and then a cropped shot focusing on the bird.

You should come down to my part of the country we see them every day. I know of at least 10 active nest. As a matter fact I saw two today while driving to town that were flying together and then landed in a tree right in front of me. Up in Alaska you can go to Ketchacan (not sure of the spelling) and ask the locals were the dump is and go up there and you will see at least 30 eating garbage hard to believe that they are just like seagulls scavengers.

Saw these two while driving home from Southern Utah this afternoon. See how life is...you drive 500 miles round trip and then you find a good subject 5 miles from home.

That is an amazing image! What was your focal length?
