Firmware update now available on Canon USA website

FYI -
Followed the instructions and updated my camera firmware - worked like a
champ! Now I can shoot 236 shots in super high res without swapping
cards!
Great..... I'm very glad your problem is resolved. I however
am very disappointed to hear that neither the serial interface or the
USB upload capability to the CF card can be used.

Did you use your own CF card reader?

If this is true (I do not yet own a microdrive but do expect a
firmware fix for the AWB flash problem that I may need to upload
in the future) ..... then shame on you Canon. You advertise a
USB capable camera and the powershot software shows both
download and upload capability. I hope this is incorrect and
the S10 users can AT LEAST THE serial interface cable.... I could
give a shit if a REQUIRED firmware update is slower than USB but
don't require folks to go out and purchase a CF card reader.

How about a software update to POWERSHOT if thats what is
needed.

Frank,

Dittos. Especially shitty that Canon will make the user pay for shipping/insurance to send the DEFECTIVE camera back to Canon for repair. And yes, the camera is defective. As shipped it is incapable of functioning with the IBM microdrive, a bit functionality that is bragged about brazenly in Canon's ads.

Canon I'm impressed with the speed at which this was turned around, but it doesn't seem reasonable to spend $150+ on hardware (DK110 + Card Reader)options just to be able to make their camera's work according to advertised specs.

Rather, how about having the user go to a factory authorized reseller where a technical rep can be onsite to perform the update. Hell, the owner might even spend some Christmas money in the store while waiting for the update to complete!

Right on Stosh!

I would think that an owner could find out from Canon where the nearest local repair shop is located and be able to take their S10 there for firmware update. This is not the time of year one wants to tie up their camera so that it will work as Canon touts in their ads.

Well, I did the firmware update and it works! Ahh, hundreds of photos. Thank you, Canon, for making the product work the way you advertised it to.

If I didn't have all this extra hardware, however, I'd be royally POed. Good thing I had both the optional (and I stress optional, here) A/C adaptor and a CF card reader.

Still, though, 590 images in large/fine mode just rocks!! Goodbye, film!
