I just received my copy of the ebook and I want to congratulate to Thom Hogan for is work.

Before buying sincerly I didn't expect a so precious book/manual; as said in the rear cover it is "What should have been the owners manual".

My proposal to Nikon (and Thom): why Nikon don't stop giving as its paper manual (not so bad but not even comparable with Thom work) and instead supply as the ebook (yes on CD !) ?

I think that with a royalty of only 1US$ to Thom, Nikon would pay less that for the printed manual, Thom "maybe" could have more incomes (I don't know how many copies he sold) and we, the users, could be much more happy and satisfied.

What you think ?

Regards,
Massimo

. . . and I would go along with whatever would benefit Thom's continued productiveness. His ebook has been one of the best purchases I've ever made in the area of photography. Or maybe any area, come to think of it.

Actually, a deal was all but signed to provide his guide with the Fuji S2. So close that Fuji was shipping it without a done deal. The deal was never finalized. Fuji shouldn't have shipped it.

Nikon would never do it. It's not the Nikon way.

Whereby purchasers of the S2 either got a CD with the camera or a coupon to send in for it. Something like that...

I have been concerned not to be able to buy this book being not in the States or Canada .I have read and heard so much that I am still asking myself how to buy it.Thom's Hogan website works only with Pay Pal not for international orders .Usua on line payments throughl credit cards would have been better .Now that the net does make the world so small why not use another on line way of selling world wide.
.It's apity .
Thanks if you could find a way to help me buy this book.

I second this option.

Hearing all the good reviews about the book surely makes you want to scream for not being able to order.

Snippet from Thom's site...

Alternative Ordering Method:

I currently accept checks and money orders in US dollars from US citizens ($34.90), bank drafts in US dollars from International customers (US$39.90). These should be made out to Thom Hogan and sent to:

I just orderded it from the Netherlands, no problems.

Payed through Paypal without problems.

Got the E-book wthin 2 weeks.
I ordered from Italy, and no probelm at all, but I agree that If you are not a registered PayPal user a credit card payment is better.

Just to clarify: Fujifilm USA began shipping books before a contract was signed. However, a contract eventually was executed and they honored it.

Who else thinks it's obscene that Thom charges $4.95 to mail a CD that already costs as much as a high-quality printed book? Why not offer free shipping and cover the 37 cents for postage yourself?

I would have ordered the eBook already, but the "shipping" fee is just too offensive.

I have the first edition of the d100 ebook and found it very useful. What does the update contain and is it significantly different than the first version? Is there any more info on using nikon capture and workflow?

I thought the shipping price was high only since it came by U.S. Mail (if I remember right). If it came by UPS or other third party carrier, I could easily understand the higher shipping cost.

I wonder if it would be better marketing to just raise the price by $5 and then say FREE shipping (by U.S. Mail).

The e-book lived up to all the hype I read on the forums and is one of most worthwhile purchases I've made. I am glad it's easy to use this e-book - no password, no activation code. There's another e-book advertised here that requires an activation code to be entered. Unfortunately, that activation becomes invalid anytime the computer changes enough, something that can easily occur since I tweak and work on my computer a lot.

Regarding using VISA, I don't know why an "electronic commerce storefront" is not used. I just purchased Foldermatch which uses this https://www.swreg.org secure site for credit cards, as well as a host of other payment options.

from the website.....

(The primary differences between the 1st and 2nd edition are in the software sections, which have been updated, as well as the addition of a new section on Custom Curves. Firmware-related issues are current as of 3/1/03. If you own an earlier edition and wish to order an update see column at right.)
