I am working on my web page and can't seem to get the pictures to be of the size that I want.

I was working on the assumption that the screen resolution is 72dpi. Therefore, a 432X288 image should measure 6 x 4 inches on screen. But this does not seem to be the case. Can anyone shed any light on this? I am interested to have my images measure 4.5x 3 inches on screen.

Thanks.

Hi

When the pic is shown on a screen, the dpi setting is not used, only the number of pixels. Therefore, on a screen set to 800X600 resolution, your pic will take up just over half the screen. On a 17" CRT screen this will be about 7", but on a screen set to 1200 X 1000 it will only take up 1/4 the width.
As a general rule use 800 as the maximum width of your web page.
