For Feivel

Hey Feivel,

This might be one of those DUMB questions, but, do you use the same
techniques for sharpening on color images? Or is the technique you
used here just for b&w??

feivel

filter> other> highpass
try it
great sharpening technique

dup layer
highpass, keep radius low so you can only see outlines, often like 1-5
then change mode to softlight, or try overlay

feivel

dup layer
filter> other> high pass
mode to overlay
mask filled with black
paint with white over skin

feivel
I thought I would just boost some of the shadows a bit.. still using your sharpen method but with hard light...

From there dupicate layer again.. set to multiply, mask, paint in area to darken slowly with opacity at 15% and flow at 50% using a simple round airbrush and so on...
Just playing..thats all

Feivel,

If you don't mind me picking your brain (notice, not BRIAN), why do you use the high pass filter? I have tried this technique on a couple of pictures and it works great, but I had always used the LAB mode to sharpen.

Just wondering why you chose the high pass filter over Lab Mode. Not arguing at all, just don't understand the differences in what the two do, and your logical answers always make sense after I hear them. So, again, just picking your brain to find out what advantages high pass gives the image.
Thanks,

BTW if you just want to sharpen the luminosity of a image just edit fade luminosity...same as Lab mode.

Thanks DewMan,

Now, one more favor that I need your help with. I want ("ask") you to please get past the anger with Feivel. It serves no purpose my friend. We all want the same thing, for CIVIL behaviour, because this is such a wonderful place to learn from one another.

Please remember one thing, and maybe you've already forgotten, (hopefully) "we" had a little spat also, but it appears that we have gotten past it. Which is exactly what we should have done. You have great knowledge to share if we all can just get past some of the anger. It serves no purpose. AGREE??

Thanks again my friend for your help.

Got to go to work now, so have a great day.

high pass vs USM in my hands:

1 cleaner (less artifacts) (main reason)
2 easier
3 more controllable

4 more interesting, especially when using different blending modes, (generally softligh, overlay, and hardlight, sometimes darken and lighten, probably others havent tried them all)
