My Fuji s602Z camera was stolen in Sydney and I am looking to replace it. After over 5000 images with the fuji I am well aware of its limitations. My biggest complains were the inablitity to focus manually (mostly because of the EVF), the inability to photograph in dimm situations, and the reaction speed (which is already better than most camera's in that price range. On the other hand I was extremely pleased with the quality and the macro abilities.

I have read a lot about the D30 and I would really like to make the switch to a DSLR but the D30 is about all I can afford. I realize that for today's standards it has a relatively low Mega Pixel rating but several searches in the forum have revealed that people are extremely pleased with the quality. Also the images in Phil's review look supurb.

Now, where would one buy a used D30 from? I have looked at Ebay but would prefer an alternative source. Also any comments in regards to the decision to go for a D30 would be much appreciated.

--Your budget and personal requirements will dictate which camera is best for you. The D30 is still a very good camera - I make a living of it with mainly motorsport photography and birding. I have had a few hundred published shots / corporate advertising posters etc and nobody has ever complained about image quality. Use quality glass and post processing techniques and you will be very happy. The 300D should also give good service, as will a used D60. The user who knows his equipment is the man to watch.

I bought a D30 about two months ago and LOVE it. My first digital camera and for the money couldnt have gotten anything better. I wanted the *ist D and keep my Pentax lenses but budget didnt allow for it (well it did but I couldnt see myself spending so much money on a body - $2300 CDN)

With the vertical grip 512K of space and four batteries I can be out all day taking and erasing photos. :)

Does anybody know of any dealers in the New England (USA) area that sell the D30. Or otherwise is there anybody that is looking to sell one. I will make a reasonable offer.

cheers,
