"heather" (img)

Thanks for posting this, Brooks. I like it, but mainly because you put it in context for me. Had I not "already" known she was a bride who went out for a smoke, I'd really wonder what the shot was about. But knowing what you told us, it really puts the shot in context, and thus, I think it's great.

There are some shots that you can simply "toss out there", while others require some narrative to provide context...this is one of those that is very good when coupled with narrative context.

I too am intrigued by the image, but in a private voyeuristic dark way. One can always take a picture up the bride's nostril. or, as you do with bugs with that incredible Canon MP-E 65mm Macro lens, pick a minute unusual object and bring it in 5x life size!

now for the incredible bug shots, may be some of the ladies were in love, and you didnt show their emotion, but they are not paying customers.

Pictures of the bride in retreat is fine to intrigue me but does nothing to fosture and preserve the fantasy of magic, perfect choice, destiny, happiness etc that the photographer is PAID to help CREATE.

hiring a wedding photographer is really buying the skills of a craftsman to create magic moments, masking the facts that the bride maybe overweight, the groom waiting to get back to the ballgame and the family in the group, not always being on the best of terms.

Yet when you hand them an album, the bride is a princes and the groom is a charmer. The guests glow with happiness for this great match made in heaven the flower girl is a gentel nymph, proof that mother nature, herselfd is behind this union.

A picture of a dressed clutches arounf bold buttocks as she rushes back to the reception is NOT part of any magic.

That is why it is wrong.

For me, it's ironic and truthful, but that is irelevent.

Joe Peoples writes:

I don't blame Brooks for posting the photo. We all take goofy shots, sometimes just for the variety, almost as a stress-reliever. Don't most of us "shoot it all, then sort them out later", only to find an interesting image? It's obvious this was just a grab shot or he would have worked it more. Most of us understand that a good photo needs to stand alone, devoid of captions or explanations. This was just his unconscious mind being playful.
