Hi all

well its been a year since I purchased my 717 and I love it plenty , Ive produced some pretty good pictures and some cr*p ;-) as well

Mostly up until now I have fiddled & fumbled with the settings using my histogram quite a bit but not really understanding which did what and more importantly why , but rather reliying on the end result to guide me ,

well its time that I started to understand and have been studiying my books and ebook ( inova ) and have started to setup my camera based on the situation rather than trial & error ,

Once I have cracked this nut I will maybe concider an upgrade if appropreate,

I hope that you will all support me and hopefully steer me in the right direction with a few tips

Looking forward to heariing from you all

Jules

Hey Julian

Good luck the self-improvement stuff.

I took a tip from Shay Stephens a while back where he advised trying a few things at F4 and 1/200th. I kinda made that my yardstick setting especially indoors and it worked pretty well. I know that Nancy (Jose Noway) has also tried it and had some results too.

However, why not try shooting different stuff from the normal: She was at my party, or he looked kinda cute etc. That River Test stuff you did was really terrific. It was out of the ordinary too.

Everybody's doing portraits, right?

I wish I could set up my tripod over the M27 and do a couple of long 30 second exposures and get those streaming lights.

Best of luck

julian,

You pics have been pretty good so far. I can't wait to see them after you know the camera better. You have lots of resources here that will help you out when ever you need it.

Hey Jules,

I won't say "good luck" because you don't exactly need luck; it seems to me that you will definitely accomplish your goal, because of your determination... :-)

Wish I could help you more, but I'm a newbie!

Anyways, thanks for sharing your nice story! Wish you all the best!

I am still fiddlin and fumblin, and some are good and some, well not so good.

Keep us posted,

I liked your "fiddling and fumbling" analogy. Sounds very familiar ;-)

Good luck to you and I have every confidence that you will succeed.
