I put my baby (CP5700) in for some fine tuning on the focus and to have a blue pixel taken care of. While they had it on the bench, they ran some tests, didn't like the readings they were getting off the CCD so they REPLACED it!!! It wasn't giving me any problems but hey, who am I to argue with the experts!!! Now THAT'S service. Not only did they fix what I asked, but they also tested the rest of the camera to make sure it was working just fine. NikonCanada - thank you for taking care of me and my baby!! And now on to that west coast wedding!! Cheers, Sandi

Well Brenda, today I was really on my game because I was coming from negotiating a large industrial real estate deal and racing to get to Nikon before they closed. Yupper, the ol' red flashing lights in the rear view mirror. Got out, walked back to the copper (I know you can't do that in the States), said "I'm sorry, is it speeding or seatbelt?" He said "you were doing 93kms in a 50 zone, didn't you see me behind you?" I told him "If I'd seen you, we wouldn't be here right now! You'd have seen brake lights in a heart beat!". Without flashing any leg (hey, it's really bitter cold today) I got the ticket reduced from 4 points and $315 fine down to no points off and $52.50 and he was really cute too!!! Made the ticket a bit more palatable, I called Nikon and they agreed to wait until I got there. What a high-adrenaline day!!! LOL I'm sure I could sweet-talk those ol' boyz in Texas into some free air conditioning for ya!! LOL
Will you come down here to Texas and take my car in for a checkup??

(:

I don't need any air conditioning - it was 29 when I got up this morning and didn't get out of the 30's today, but I was thinking of maybe a new car - you're on a roll, girl!

It's incredible how good Nikon service seems to be in Canada vs some of the posts I read an the past about not so good service in the USA. Besides, they should be paying you a commission as their biggest good will embassador. Enjoy the West coast, it will be wonderful for you compared to our lousy weather here in the East.

Cheers, Sandi - you were very lucky with the ticket bit and getting your camera back so fast. Did you try it out with the new CCD? Would it make a difference in your photos?

... is that I did not know of anything wrong with the CCD. They could have just left it until April when their warranty would run out, then when there's a problem that finally shows up, it would be paid by Henry's Cameras, with whom my extended warranty is with. That's what I love about NikonCanada is how incredibly good their customer service is. I've NEVER a bad experience, always ready promptly and always seem to get a pleasant surprise with every pickup when my camera is in. NikonUSA might need to take lessons in how to treat their clients! You might not be aware, Andy, but our cameras cost a bit more up here because more profit goes back to the tech support/service center, therefore their ability to correct things like this. I'm all for it! Good ol' fashioned "make the customer happy with our product". Kinda simple, isn't it!!!!????

The ticket was due to smooth talking and a red-lipstick smile (first words out of your mouth when stopped for speeding should be "I'm so sorry" it works!), but Nikon has always given me quick service, especially now they know I'm using this for pro work, not just FCBs! LOL They even told me they have a backup 5700 I could use if this one wasn't ready, now isn't that kind of them! I needed it ASAP as I'm shooting DustyD's wedding!!!! Pics to follow. Yes, ran some tests with the new CCD, it's as naked as a jaybird as far as hot pixels and the camera is locking on focus as expected. As far as making a difference, time will tell ! I've only taken test pics of the various clutter on my desk here so you're not seeing those!! LOL

Yes, I agree we pay a bit more up here but to me it has always been worth it for the extra customer care. I have bought most of my equipment locally, either Henry's, Vistek or Ginn's in Ottawa. While they can't match some of the discounted prices of e-tailers, they're really not much more expensive than B&H etc... I've never had to use Nikon service yet, but based on yours and others' experiences I am not overly concerned about the day that I'll have to. In fact I've been considering sending the 5700 in for a check up even though it's well past the warranty period.

If you stick to one store, and especially to one sales rep, you won't have to pay sticker price on your stuff. I deal with one guy at Henry's and have taken/sent him about 15 new customers, so I never pay full retail! Henry's has always taken care of me very well - good customer service there as well. Send your baby in for a tune-up, you'll be surprised how much better it feels. This is locking on focus like a duck on a bug - just snaps right there and stays there - I'm impressed at what this tune-up did for my beastie.

I wish nikonusa had comparable service. My experience with the USA service departments has been marginal at best. I've owned the camera for a little more than a year and its been in and out of service for about 5 month primarilly due to poor turnaround time and inability to fix simple problems the first time around. At one point I have actually needed to fight with a regional mangers and service supervisors to get my camera fixed properly. I realize that I have had exceptionally bad service compared to most... and that this is not necessarily indicative of their overall service perfomance but my last problem (internal flash failure) has prompted me to switch to a canon digital rebel as my primary camera leaving my 5700 as a backup. I like the nikon digitals... but at this point I just really dont trust the cameras reliability (I already missed 3 of the 5 trips I have taken due to service issues) or the competency of their service center staff.

According to The Official Canadian Temperature Conversion Chart, Canadians only start saying "cold, eh" at -273C (-460F) or absolute zero, where all atomic motion stops. This is a result of our frustration encountered at -114C (-173F) with our attempts to thaw beer kegs.

The next most significant temperature reached will be -295C (-500F) when the fiery place below freezes. This is coincidental with the Toronto Maple Leafs winning the Stanley Cup. Given their current record, this could be a slightly colder winter than normal.....

On topic, I agree that Nikon Canada service is good. Have'nt used it for digital, but my Nikon film camera has been in twice for broken doors. Both times, fixed fast and well.
