Type 1 and Type 2 flash cards

So I finally got around to sending back a Transcend flash card that quit working in my D7i. They sent me a new one but this one is probably type 2, which will not work with an D7i w/o a firmware upgrade correct? I went all through this when I sent back 2 different Microdrives, thinking they were at fault? I have never been able to get the cam to accept the firmware, I have tried everything and spoke to many people on this bored i just dont get it. So, who or where can I take my cam to do the upgrade? I'd hate to send it to Minolta and chance it getting damaged or being w/o it for a few weeks. Are there Minolta factory support camera shops through California that I could have do the upgrade or am I out of luck? Thank you.

Oh yea, I did try to format the card in a card reader no luck still, I am not able to format in camera, its as if the cam doesnt recognize that there is a card there.
