(OT) Good web site hosting

Can anyone recommend a good web hosting company. This will be a personal website for posting stuff for the family and others to see. Looking for a good value also.

I recently started using MyValueHost (www.myvaluehost.com). Basic facilities - no fancy design tools or user interface - but if you're comfortable using your own design tools, they're good value. Unix and Windows options at the same price; Unix with PHP and Windows with ASP. 500Mb of storage and more bandwidth than you're ever likely to need, plus free domain registration, all for $4.95 per month.

So far, access has been quick and the server has been 100% reliable. My one query to their support email service was answered promptly. I'd rate this a good host for users with a little experience, but possibly less so for complete newbies who might benefit from on-line design tools and more hand-holding.

They have a "special".

Free hosting, 500 megs of storage and 3 gig of monthly bandwidth. Also excellent response time since I signed up a week ago.

Another vote for http://www.1and1.com

500MB free for 3 years is a good deal. This is a good option if you are comfortable with setting up and maintaining you own stuff (read - not a lot of person-to-person help). I registered a domain and setup a site overnight. It works (so far) and has been plenty fast. I use Jalbum (again - you can't beat free) to post up my pics. Good stuff.

I had been using ipowerweb.com for some time but switched several months ago to 1and1.com. Free hosting for three years, can't beat that.

Is there really not catch to this. Seems a little odd plus you get the fusion software free. I am always leary about deals like this.

No catch whatsoever, myself and associate of mine that joined as well have read the agreement carefully. They were advertising this in PC World magazine in December, I came across it several months ago from a link at download.com.

Seems legitimate to me.

Yes, it does. I went back and read everything I could find including the agreement. I could not see anything wrong so I joined also. You know that old saying if it seems to good to be true it is. I hope this is not the case.
