f828 confusion

I am picking up my f828 in about a hour at the shop, i can still change to rebel 300D. Reading all the purple fringing and ISO noise I am not feeling to good about the f828 anymore? There is a lot of bad chatter on all the issues around the f828 noise levels on ISO 200 and higher. Not so for Rebel. for the red M man pics F828 64 through 800. Also look at M man pics for Rebel http://www.steves-digicams.com/2003_reviews/300d_samples.html

For same ISO settings, Rebel looks good. Sony looks a little sharper to me on ISO 64 and 100.

Would like some final thoughts before I pick up the f828,

They are very different cameras.

The Rebel is a dSLR with much less DOF, optical VF versus EFV and live LCD, no video mode, takes interchangable lenses, and larger sensors for less noise at any given ISO.

Why not try out both and see which one you like better. Also think about whether you take a lot of shots indoors without flash (the Rebel will be better if you buy a fast lens) or whether you care about the live LCD to compose images (the 828 can do this).

ANY non DSLR is going to have high noise at anything over iso100, because of the small sensor.

If you can live with it buy it. if you do a lot of low light action shooting, you're better off with a DSLR with a fast lens, but it will c$st you.

Thanks to Doug and Matthew for your prompt comments,

The low light action got me thinking, I do a lot of family shots kids etc. I do a lot of action indoor in winter, so sounds like the rebel with fast lens will do me better.

I am new in digital photogrophy, the only reason why i am getting into it is because i could never learn the tricks on the 35 mm canon because of development cost, with the advent of digital i am getting back into it.

Which lens would you recommend? and what would the cost be more or less?

Thanks for the input, I got to run to the store, I think if they have the rebel i go rebel, else I will be ok with sony since I a am still learning. The lenses i can buy in a few months if i go rebel since i got a lot to learn and stock lens should be ok to learn all the composition factors I hope.

The lens prices is not to bad considering you can keep them and switch camera body for upgrade canon later,

Doug, I might be late but in my opinion if your just learning the digital thing you may want the sony as it has the live preview, for me this was a godsend in learning as i could see the effect that different f-stops and shutter speeds had live before i took the shot. Just thought i would add this is if you want to see some of my pics taken with my ol 707 look here.

Ok, thanks, still havent made it out to the store, they just called, got the f828 ready for pick up and have no rebel in stock, so my thought is just that i am new to digital, instantly converted fan, the cam is just the tool, so maybe i am wrong, but for learning looks like the f828 looks good.

One other thought, i have seen a lot of f717 pics i am very happy with, my wifed picked the f717 pics when i hided all the details from canon d10, d300 and f717, she could not see which one was from which cam,

So again, maybe i am just hinging now after all the bad wrap on this forum? The object is learing the art, not so much the equipment,

any other comments, no doubt the rebel with additional lenses will be better, but then again I am in learing cuve, so its gonna be about a year before i can make my true pic for a camera,
