Can anyone help? I mainly use the camera for outdoor landscape work but occasionally like last night for a party I use it indoors and need to use flash.

Using the built-in flash and Program mode and the lens at wide angle, the exposure auto sets to a shutter speed of 1/30 sec and f2.0 which I think is too slow if not using a tripod.

Is my e20 working correctly?

The way I overcome this is to use Shutter Priority and set the speed to 1/100 sec but the aperture is still at f2.0. Photo exposure seems fine.

Am I getting the best out of using the builtin flash?

Many thanks

Hi Norman,

I pulled out my E-20 and turned on flash in P mode and sure enough, I see shutter speed set to 1/30s and lense at f2.0 when at wide angle...and it goes up to 1/125s at full telephoto. I think most experienced Exx users in this forum will urge you to stay away from P mode. It seems to me that P mode also picks some slow shutter speeds in normal light.

Yeah, that's probably better. I believe the E-20 syncs up to 1/250th, but check the manual.

First it is my experience that the P mode chooses slow shutter speed / big aperture in a lot of cases. I think shooting in the S mode is best if you are concerned about movement...shooting in the A mode if you want to control DOF.

Second as a thought I just bought a Sunpak 383 from local ritz camera for ~$100. Took pictures over the Christmas Holidays with 383 bounced off ceiling and onboard flash also. Worked Great!

I prefer to use aperture priority with flash. Even so, 1/30th second should be OK as the flash will freeze anything it illuminates, you may experience a blur around the sharpness(!) if there is a lot of movement in the subject. This is also an interesting effect to try out in itself.

The E-10/20 will sync @ all shutter speeds. A nice, forgotten feature!
