I am having trouble getting my Mac (OS10.3) to sync correctly using either View 6.1.1 or NC 3/4. View will not download the images from the camers, it quits or locks up. NC 3/4 won't even launch. They error out on launch.

Any Ideas? Please

My Nikon rep told me they are aware of the problem, and there is nothing to do about it before the software is fixed. He was not shure if it was Nikon ore Apple that should do the fix, so maybe it will take some time. In the meantime uncheck the transfer auto launch and simply drag the images to a folder you make. Then you can use NC and NW as editing and browser programs.

I just purchased a D100 2 days ago. I have exactly the same problems with the Nikon software that you post. I am running 10.3.2. Anyone have suggestions?

I am looking to buy a 15" PowerBook G4 w/SuperDrive in Feb. I use NC 4 alot. If you already have the files on your laptop HDD, can you still open and use NC 4? Or, does it still crash?

thanks or the link. to answer the previous questions, I have been copying the files directly to the HD and opening them in NV 6.0 but as far as NC 3/4 is concerned, I can't even get into the program. NC 3 crashes on launch and NC4 does not recognize the camera. It won't let me open a file from the HD. It keeps prompting me to attache the camera.

I was thinking of roling back to 10.2 Jaguar just to be productive and work with my images.

Mike, are you saying that you are able to do an automatic upload from your camera/card in NV 6.1 while using Mac OSX 10.3.2? My combo 6.1 and Nikon Capture work just fine except for the the auto upload.

I'm running this combo on my PB G4 with 1Gig Memory. I've not been brave enough to install panther on my Desktop which is a dual 1.25 ghz machine. I'm still running 10.2.8 or so with it and having no problems.

Paul

Knowing Nikon this is a software issue. It seems some people are having luck...perhaps that had previous versions installed prior to NV6 and NC 4?

As for me, I have uninstalled the software many times w/ no luck. As I have just purchased my D100, I have never installed previous versions of Nikon software. I have been trying to install NV6 and NC 4 which came w/ my D100. I am trying to install on a TiBook-1 Ghz with 1 Gig Ram and 10.3.2. As stated by the original poster, NV6 freezes and quits upon import of images, and NC4 gets a #-5000 registration error upon startup. Import into other programs such as iphoto or Graphic Converter works fine. Does anyone have any knowledge of solutions?

Nikon Inc. has found an incompatibility with Apple's recent Mac OS X version 10.3.x "Panther" operating systems. Nikon View transfer fails to transfer images under this new operating system version. Viewing, editing and saving images works as expected, however Nikon Transfer cannot be used to move images from the camera to the computer.

Until a solution to this issue is found, several work-arounds are available:

(1) Use the Nikon Transfer "Image Transfer Rule" setting (click the "Change" button on the Nikon Transfer window) to specify a date range that includes the pictures you wish to transfer

(2) Mount the camera like a removable disk by setting the camera's "USB" mode to "Mass Storage" or "MSC" mode. Then simply drag the image files from the mounted disk to your computer. If your camera does not support the "MSC USB" mode a third-party card reader will be necessary.

(3) Apple's "iPhoto" application can be used to transfer images from most Nikon cameras.

Instead of dragging the files use Image capture. Apple included a transfer untility with osX. Look in the applications folder, you will see a program called image capture. It works perfect. I also really recomend getting a firewire card reader. They are around 50US are really fast. Even if Nikon get there transfer software working again i will still us image capture.

the Nikon Capture crashing is a different issue. The -5000 error is a permissions error (it's a unix thing). Are you logged in as the admin on your machine?

Will - Thanks for your reply. Your comment about the permissions gave me an idea.

I booted into the root user. This time, instead of using the combined installer program on the CD, I used the seperate NC4 and NV6 installers on the CD. After installation, I tested in root....everything worked fine. I then booted into my regular user account, and everything is still working fine. So, thanks again for the permissions comment...it had not occurred to me that could be the problem.

So what your saying is that NV6 was able to transfer the images directly from the camera? I didn't try image Cature or iPhoto because I am shooting in RAW mode and didn't think they would recognize the files as photos.

no, the transfer problem is a separate issue. The -5000 error was even getting the software to launch. Capture and iPhoto both recognized NEF. iphoto only shows you the thumbnails. I use iview media pro and love it. You do not need it though. just transfer with image capture and view with Nikon view. I really don't miss nikon transfer at all.

jhutchison and Will, thank you. I tried the install under root and it did indeed work. So, I will be using image capture after all. The only thing I don't like is that image capture won't recognise a NEF file while the camera is in "P" mode. I have to keep it in mass storage mode then switch when I want to use NC control.

again thanks

Yeah, I noticed that today while playing around with control for the first time. I know it's one more thing to get but i LOVE my sandisk firewire card reader. The pictures fly off the card onto the drive. I have actually NEVER tranfered from the camera using USB. i just pop the card out and into the drive.

Glad I was able to provide some help.
