A1 Warranty - covers International?

Hi,

I need some advise on A1 warranty boiught in US, does it comes with international warranty?

My USA warranty is on one side, the International warranty on the other side of the Minolta warranty card. Hope yours is the same.

rof i recently bought a G400 in the USA. The warranty makes it clear that if bought here it is only warranted here and in Canada. If bought elsewhere it has the international warranty which is good anywhere. To put it precisely, KM is unfair to every buyer.(sob)

I spoke directly to Minolta Canada rep inquiring aboout US bought Dimage A1. I was told explicitly that the International warranty card MUST be stamped by the selling dealer in order to have warranty in Canada.

So, unless a legitimate dealer will do this for you before shipping the cam... one would have to send the camera back to USA for warranty repair.

I think a person from Alberta imported an A1 from NYC (17th St Camera ??) and told the story of how cooperative they were in this regard. This was posted here about 4-5 weeks ago I think.

On the other hand, when I called BuyDig.com, they would ship to Canada but NOT open the box to stamp the card.

What a frickin' pain this so-called free trade is!

I live in Australia and I bought Konica KD400 early this year from US thru eBay. It had US warranty card only but when my charger was out of order, I contacted Konica australia to ask if they can replace it for free and they gladly sent me the new one.

Unfortunately the new one got broken again so I asked them again and they were happy to send me another one for free...

I think KM will provides international warranty even if the product is bought in US if you ask them nicely.

I bought an A1 at B&H in Manhattan, I live in UK. The Standard International Warranty that comes with it clearly states that it is covered outside of the countries you bought it in for one year. For UK you can send it to Minolta in UK for repair - I also checked with Minolta UK before going to the States.

I recently bought my A1 from the States and registered the camera online at Minolta.com. However, this proved difficult, as the registration for was designed for US users only. I telephoned the customer service enquiry line in the UK, who gave me a number of a company to telephone that deals with all new product registrations. Sorry, I can;t find the number. You can e-mail Minolta UK at [email protected]. The bottom line is that your registration is covered!

Minolta Canada (at least) said the international warranty must be stamped by the selling dealer to be validated! The challange with some on-line purchases is to get the person at the other end to do this. They may not even be a dealer so they could not provide a stamped card if they wanted to.

I'm in the process of buying an A1 in the US since i can get the A1 in the US for the same amount of money i would pay for the new Canon S1 or an Oly C-750 here in Sweden. i never thougt that they had international warranty, Canon or Oly doesnt. Having a look at Minoltas US-site and reading the warranty-restrictions I find the following:

For the following cameras: DiMAGE 7, DiMAGE 5, DiMAGE S304, DiMAGE E201, DiMAGE S404, DiMAGE X, DiMAGE 7i and DiMAGE F100, DiMAGE F200, DiMAGE F300, DiMAGE 7Hi, DiMAGE S414, DiMAGE E223, DiMAGE X, DiMAGE Xi, DiMAGE Xt, DiMAGE A1, DiMAGE Z1, DiMAGE G500, DiMAGE X20, DiMAGE E323, and DiMAGE Xt Biz we offer a 1 Year limited international warranty. Please see international warranty details below.

Then below it says:

The international warranty is applicable outside the country where the product was purchased, and within the country only if it was purchased outside the United States, Japan, Canada, or Sweden.

What exactly does that mean?

If you buy it in United States, Japan, Canada, or Sweden there's no International warranty?

you can get it fixed in the country you bought it ONLY if it was purchased outside above stated countrys?

or what?

That's what Minolta Canada told me as well. They also emphasized that unless the seller was an Autorized Minolta Dealer, they would not even look at it even if the International Warranty is stamped. So people should be careful where they buy a camera from, making sure the seller is really a Minolta dealer.

I believe you were referring to me (but I'm from Sask. - close enough?) and yes I bought my A1 from 17th Street Photo ( http://www.17photo.com/ ) who stamped my int'l warranty card.

I'm in the U.S. so this won't apply to everyone but if you look at the bottom of your warranty card, it should say:

USA Warranty Period: 1 year
International Warranty Period: 1 year

I bought mine through amazon and paid a bit more simply because of their 30 day return policy, had very good dealings with them in the past and I felt assured they would continue their good customer service. I'm still in the 30 day period and will be testing My A1 out during that time.

Look at the bottom of your warranty card; (mine is 1 foot/5 inches long)
for the warranty details I specified above.

Answer is : This camera can be repaired in the US.

Now, in regards to having the reseller STAMP the warranty card...I don't know but I will look into it.

Hmm, I still can't figure out what exactly that sentence mean, but then again, english isn't my first language. However I got a reply from Minolta in Sweden and the A1 is atleast covered under warranty in Sweden if bought anywhere else in the world. She didn't mention anything about warranty-card, just wrote that reciept was neccessary.
