Are any lens attachements possible for the S45? From everywhere I've read it isn't. But I do recall at sometime seeing a picture where a lens is added via an attachment that is screwed in underneath the s45 (tripod mount) and wraps around to the front of the camera. Does anyone have insight into this?

I see that.. that answers a few issues for me in a delima of what to buy... S45/S50 or G3/G5..

NOW i wonder if anyone has experience with anything LIKE that adapter and how it works...??? In my search for a camera.. id like a S45/S50 BUT i also want to be able to have toys, lenses, filters...

First purchase the adappter from http://www.ckcpower.com , then you can add +1,+2,+4,+7,+10 close-up lenses, Tiffen MegaPlus 2.0x tele and .56 WA lenses, CrystalVue 8x32 Sharpshooter super tele, polorizer, ND filters, etc.

These items can be found at http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home http://www.2filter.com and http://www.bugeyedigital.com among others.

I have the S30 (3.2MP)DC ,the ckcpower 37mm adapter,and filters/lenses.
Here's a few shots with different lenses/filters:

Shot taken with Tiffen Circular Polarizer:

Shot taken with 8x monocular zoom lens(close to around 900mm ,in 35mm terms).I was at least 30 feet away:

Same lens used as a macro lens.I was about 5 feet away from this shot:

Shot taken with Tiffen .6 ND filter:

And last, but not least, and one of my favorites, also with the CrystalVue Optics 8x32 monocular zoom lens:

I also have wide angle conversion lens (.42x),812 warming filter,And soon to buy InfraRed filter

i'm not sure why canon didn't allow this option themselves considering the S series is marketed as a higher end compact camera. It looks ugly but there seems to be no other similar product, or is there? How much does this attachment weigh?

thanks for the replies

1st,who really cares what it looks like? Are you taking it to a fashion show?
This is a camera, and it's what the pictures look like that count.

If it were green with yellow dots,I'd still buy it,as it has no effect on the pictures, and with it,I can use a $150.00 lens that will get me as close as a 900mm tele lens on a 35mm camera !!. see my previous post, for pictures with various lenses and filters.

Canon didn't allow it,because it was built to be portable, with a sliding lens cover. No room for an adapter.

Canon doesn't seem to put threads on the lens itself, but instead will allow accessory lenses/filters on the body housing.Like the A80,and earlier versions, and the G5,and earlier versions. The way they connect may change, but never mounted on the lens.At least not for consumer products.I think the Pro 70 or 90 had threads, but none other that I can recall.

The adapter works fine.Made out of 6061 aluminum,so it should last.No plastic here.Hard to tell how much it weighs, but it doesn't increase the weight of the camera too much.

Well built and nicely finished. There are at least two other adapters available, if you search this board. By I don't think either is as solid as the CKC.

Few compact DCs (if any) will have threaded lenses... the focus/zoom drive mechanisms just can't support the weight of accessory lenses (or the camera body, if mounted via the lens to a telephoto or telescope).

I am VERY new to photography. I recently purchased an S45. In Canada we have a place called Henrys(henrys.com). I found that they have a canon product called CANON LENS ADAPTER MOUNT (POWERSHOT S) WebCode: 595CAN006. This is the description for it: "This lens adapter is required when mounting the .8x wide angle lens or the 1.5x tele lens to your Canon Powershot S series digital camera". The people at the store say exactly what the description says. The cannont tell me if I can use the Tiffen et al lens with it. They are really quite ignorant.

Has anyone heard of this product? Also, if I can only use it with Canon's .8x wide angle lens or the 1.5x tele is it worth buying it or buying the CKC adapter.

Any information would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Anthony

This has been discussed many times. The adapter that is sold by Henry's is made by Acetar (also identical to the rebranded Kenko). It is plastic and 30.5mm threaded (which means you will require a 30.5> 37mm step-up ring). There is also a metal, 37mm threaded adapter sold by http://www.idigicam.com a Korean company. And, there is the adapter sold by http://www.ckcpower.com I have used all three and the CKC adapter is the one to get. It is better designed, better machined and better built than the other two.

As for tele and WA lenes, IMO the 37mm Tiffen MegaPlus 2.0x tele and the .56x WA are the best choices for the S45. Check http://www.2filter.com , http://www.bugeyedigital.com and http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home
