Fantastic - was in HK last week but didn't want to risk buying a grey market model without warrenty. Will be in S'pore in Jan, so timing is perfect! Is Sim Lim the best place to buy?

FYI, price here in New Zealand for grey market model is NZ$1,200 (US$770)!! Official launch not till Feb/Mar '04 and price around NZ$1,300 - 1,400.

Thanks for the update. I'll be in S'pore in a fortnight and I usually go to Sim Lim and Funan - do you know if it's appeared at any of the stores there?

Thanks in advance!

Hi
I've bought mine from Sim Lim and first impressions is that
I like the OIS very much..

Handheld macro is excellent, OIS panning shots work
quite well - and long distance 420 mm works great.
Zoomed Macro is also quite good as you can avoid
hitting or scaring away the subject.

Best way to take multiburst is to set the Focus to MF
then when you see a subject, you push the MF down
and let go, it will autofocus once and return to MF mode.

Then press the multiburst shutter on OIS mode 2 and
let it rip..

I just took some shots of the night sky at ASA 400
pretty noisy but I think NoiseNinja will fix it when they
do publish a calibration chart.

The camera is lighter than then Coolpix 5700 and lighter than
the Sony F717 which I have.

I bought a 'fake' battery for S$40.00

Once I get more familiar with it, I would probably
get an EWA marine casing and take it snorkeling.

The Sony F828 has an Fstop of 2.0 compared to
the FZ10's F2.8 but the 420 MM zoom is great
cannot wait for the Panasonic's 625MM zoom accessory.

5x zoom on the Fz10 is equal to about what you see
with your eyes.

The camera seems to have more 'noise' compared to
my F717 but that is only if you zoom in 2x with ACDSee.

I am still trying to shake the camera to force it
to have better OIS like some say in the forum
but cannot validate this..

My Firmware is 1.05.

Hi Allan, may i refer you to my another thread regarding the comparison btwn cp5700 and fz10. The noise of fz-10 in night scene is seemed tobe better than cp5700...!

Hi Twg
I bought the FZ10 based solely on your thread demoing
the OIS..

I mostly take nature photos and spontaneous shots..

In this shot, the bats are living under the roof of my
house, I used full manual HAND HELD OIS mode 2..

I cannot take such photos with my F717. Note that if
you zoom in , you notice some grain.. I hope Noise Ninja
can fix this.. but they have no FZ10 profile as yet.

I tried shaking the camera every way but cannot get any sharper
pics than this ..

These shots were taken pointing the camera 80 Degrees up
while standing on the ground "a very shaky situation."

I took shots pointing the camera horizontally but found that
I did not have to shake it to get OIS working.

The OIS modes are really confusing, according to the manual
OIS 1 is always on but OIS 2 turns on when the shutter is
released..

Does this mean that when OIS 1 is used, the shutter releases
WITHOUT any OIS as compared to OIS 2 where OIS is
active during image capture??

However if OIS 2 works well even with small vibrations
, then an advantage is that we can bring a LIGHT CHEAP
TRIPOD and achieve the effects of a heavy solid tripod
when taking long exposures. In fact I am thinking of using
my ONE LEG tripod, I will check if OIS works sideways
with the vertical axis stable.

This will lighten my backpack when I am bashing in the
forest.

Hi
Well here are some test shots from Bedok reservoir which
I took the day I got the FZ10.. handheld OIS full 420mm zoom.

I see the slight 'blur' in the photo which I noted even
when I tested using a tripod..

Can someone explain if this is the cause of the lens?

Some of the photos posted by 10kzoom also showed some
blur in their photos.. so I am wondering if getting a
Tcon-17 is really worth it to capture a difficult shot that
may not be there in the future.
