I actually called them up and specifically asked "please take my order ONLY IF you have the camera in stock and will ship ASAP". I also requested for the panasonic 128mb SD card to go with the camera.

They took the order for the camera but refused for the 128mb since it was backordered.

that leads me to believe that I will get my camera as promised.

anyway, If I don't get the camera on 12/31/2003, guess what?
I will dispute the credit card bill and then let them deal with it.
I am glad I have a credit card that has a no-hassle dispute service.

This morning of 26-dec-2003, I called them up at 1-800-368-5020.

They confirmed it is shipping today via UPS (free ground delivery) and I should have it in 3 working days.

Hi Chiks,

I just wondered if you have had any further correspondence with Video Direct or gotten a tracking # for your camera? They say they still have the FZ10 for $509, but I'm holding out to hear how your experience goes with them. If you don't mind, please give us an update.

Sure.
I will call them again tomorrow and get more details(such as tracking no).

If I smell anything fishy, I would go with the onecall price. It is a great price.

I was ready to order from onecall.com on Fri. I e-mailed them and asked if they would honor the price of $509 that VideoDirect had posted. I received a reply with a link to a list of authorized Panasonic dealers, and a link to ResellerRatings. VideoDirect was on the list of authorized P. dealers, and I had checked Resellers previously, knew they did not have a good rating. I e-mailed back and told Patrick that I was aware of VideoDirect's rating, and that they were listed as authorized P. dealers, would he honor their policy of price matching. He e-mailed me back saying that VideoDirect did not have the black FZ10 in stock. I picked up the phone and called, spoke w/a Robert at ext.105 who told me they did have it in stock. I e-mailed Patrick w/this info and he again graciously gave me the link to Resellers. To make a long story short-er, it came down to principle for me - he was pointedly showing me how lousy VideoDirect's rating was, while he was not honoring their price matching policy. So, I will keep my money until I am ready to part with it - again - but it won't be to onecall.com. I'm glad everyone else has had good luck with them. Too bad I did not.

FWIW, I watched prices before and after Christmas waiting to see if OneCall or one of the other deep discounters would drop prices again. I finally just called J&R, got their best price which was $530 at the time with 2-day shipping of $15. They had been as low as $515 at one time, but you really need a hungry sales rep to offer that. ;-)

I also packaged some other stuff to minimize the shipping cost and had them discount that also. Notable a 256MB Sandisk Ultra for $69.

I figured if I wanted it, waiting for a few more dollars in savings didn't make that much sense...plus J&R, B&H, etc. are mainstream authorized dealers.
