Yes, I know this is a bit OT, but I'm pretty sure that there are quite a bunch of users here which use that printer (?) and there wasn't anybody over at the Printers and Printing forum that could help, so my last hope before sending it back is here =)

Ok, so the deal is this: The printer is supposed to be able to print borderless at 4 sizes, 6x4, 7x5, US Letter and European A4 size (almost like Letter). Now, the smaller sizes work fine for borderless printing, BUT I've noticed that on the A4 prints it leaves me with a tiny, but definitely disturbing white sliver on the right, and a very tiny sliver in the bottom.

If I set the printer to "Auto extend" mode, it does print all the way, but crops out waaay to much of the pic. Point is, the problem is in the software, and not the actual printer. Btw, I got the latest drivers!

I've tried everything I can come up with: Prrinted from PS, Illustrator, Canons print program, etc., I've tried every single setting there is. And it is HOPELESS! Arrrhhhhgg....so a-n-n-o-y-i-n-g!

Ok, I know it's not the end of the world, but still, having to cut out those slivers after printing them sorta makes the investment of a borderless printer useless, right? Anyway.......ANY help or suggestion is welcome =)

Thanks!

I don't have any problem printing the A4 borderless photos out of the i850, could it be the paper which is not exactly the A4 size?
I'm sorry I cannot help.

Of course you have borderless turned on.

Elements will size the picture percentage to cover the page and leave a sliver. It needs a few more percent added. This crops the picture a bit more, but removes the sliver.

You might change the value of borderless extension in the Canon print driver as well and not more than necessary. Overdoing it just empty spaces more ink on the foam catcher in the drain.

I'm using Photoshop 6.0 and have tried that, but no matter how much or little I add, the slivers still remain!

Well, even the first setting which means it should only crop a little crops waaay too much fr my liking > 3cm...

But thanks, anyway!

Leif Söderlund you need Easy Photo Print 2.0 from Canon.

I have a Canon I850 myself and this is the best way to print 8x10
and such borderless prints. I love the cropping tool (crop the
file on the way to the printer without touching the file).
I have now downloaded Easy Photo Print 2.0, and it sort of works...it does print the photos borderless, but it crops them waay too much! It's exactly like choosing the borderless extension from the Canon driver setup.

This is really starting to annoy me....grrr....

Thanks anyway!

Leif,

I have a Canon i560 (essentially an i850 re-released) and have no problems.

When you use Canon's Easy Photo Print have a look at the trimming window. The red line, I believe, shows what you should expect to have printed. Obviously some info will be lost if your aspect ratio is different to the paper - the software will not stretch an image out of proportion. To get around this you would have to stretch out of shape in Photoshop or something first.

Personally, I only loose a couple of mm in one direction, and more in the other to meet the aspect ratio - exactly as I would expect. In the settings I have that overlap setting (or whatever it's called) set to Small - it's default value of Large was taking considerably more image (perhaps 1cm). I've never seen even a hint of white.

Good luck.
