I was thinking about how great of an opportunity it would be to have been able to go to Iraq as a photojournalist to cover the war. But with the dangers involved I'm not sure I would go.

I don't know why this thought just popped into my head but it did.

What does everyone else think they would do if they had the chance?

If I wanted pictures of the desert, I could just go to Arizona or California.

If I wanted pictures of Arabs, I could just go to most state universities.

If I wanted to see fighting, I could just let Geraldo risk his a$$. ;)

The main reason being is that I'd be too worried about some sand-jockey Iraqi using me as a target to test out his new rocket-propelled grenade launcher because his goverment attests mine.

Heh, dying for something like that? No way.....

Who remembers flash cubes?

The phrase, "OH HELL NO" comes to mind. It's not that people would be shooting at me or there was the chance that I would be killed or maimed or something like that. Nope, the main reason I wouldn't go is it was HOT. Yep, I'm a heat pussy. I like it cold. When it starts to climb above 68° I start to be the biggest whiner you've ever met. Chances are I would have bitched so much our own troops would have shot me. Either that or I would have shot myself just to avoid being in the sun. I got a sunburn once just driving to work in my car. Yeah, I would have to pass. If a war broke out in say Iceland or Canada I would take the job. Not sure they would want my crappy photos though.

I am an ex infantryman (no combat, no wars during that period of my life). I would MUCH rather go as a soldier than a photojournalist. At least if you got shot at, you could shoot back (and I shoot WELL!)

I got a good bit of insight reading Robert Capa's biography. That should be a must read for anyone remotely interested in photojournalism.
