you will need to save lots of it to outfit a decent DSLR. I got over $28k wrapped up in my D1x with lenses. The $1k would not make any difference.

i was and i am still happy with my 707
but now i want something better
was hopping that the 828 would do it
but save me the apples and oranges
the d300 give better results with the kit lens.
the swivel body wil be the only thing i'd miss.
Why were you shopping for a fixed lens/swivel body/LDC shooter in
the first place then??

a car and a truck are not the same even if they cost the same...

That is a TON of cash. Hell, I could buy a NICE car and pay off half my student loans with that. That said, he can prolly do okay spending roughly 1500 large.

The funny thing is, I wouldn't know how to spend more than $5K or so in lenses, since I wouldn't shoot anything longer than 70-200 + extenders. Maybe I can reach $28k by buying every single L prime in existence... :)

If 828 is not better than 707, why not stay with 707. It would save you more money that way.

...you've only seen pictures that other people have taken.

Surely it's only when you take exactly the same picture with two different cameras that you can compare and write-off one against another...?

this is not the point
i have seen millions of digital images in the last 3-4 years and now i am more sure than ever -my 707 will be my last small ccd camera.
d300(+kit lens)=same money/better results
