If you could only afford ONE lens for your 10d, what would

24-70L is probably the best quallity overall generall use lens atm.

They are a bit pricy($1,200ish), but you simply can't go wrong with this lens.

As time goes by and you feel the need for more variety, you can later add to your inventory a 17-40L and 70-200L IS.

You really can;t go wrong with this combination.

Just my $.02

Please correct me if I am wrong, but your post makes no sense. If you were originally thinking 300D plus 75-300 lens, then you were going to spend @ 1400.00 USD.

Then, you say for the same money you want a 10D (I understand this).

The point that is confusing me is that you are implying that the budget is now exhausted, BUT you have @ 1500 to spend on glass???

Now here's my $.02

If you are looking for just one decent all purpose lens with some value to start out, I would go for the Tamron 28-75 DI f/2.8 (about 300.00)

If however, you do in fact have 1500.00 to spend on just one piece of glass, my vote is for the 24-70L

As others have pointed out with a 1500 lens budget, you can get a few really decent lenses. I might spend 1500.00 like this...

1) 28-135 Canon (400)
2) 75-300 IS Canon (400)
3) 50mm 1.4 Canon (300)
4) 550EX flash (350)
you get? Within reasonable limits please :) Sub$1500

I was going to get the 300d, but prefer the 10d over it. So I am
sacraficing a cheaper 300d setup with the 18mm kit lens and an
additional 75-300zoom i wanted to get. Instead, Im looking for
just the 10d body + ???lens...

Thanks
